Reliable recirculating pump
I bought this unit to replace my current Grundsfos 1/25th horsepower hot water recirculating pump which has been a reliable pump for the past 11 - 12 years. This will be the third Grundsfos pump to be used in my home's hot water recirculating system since it was installed 24 years ago. Amazon sells this for almost $100 less than what a local plumbing supply store would charge me. The pump is quiet and uses relatively little energy, even with continuous running. I have never had any leakage problems with my previous two Grundsfos pumps. My current hot water recirculation system has an extra return line going to the hot water lines of three bathroom faucets located more than 50 feet from the water heater so that it is constantly recirculating hot water within a closed loop of hot water lines. The advantage of this system is that I get hot water within seconds of turning on the hot water faucet or shower from anywhere in my home even on cold, freezing mornings. The disadvantage of this system is the labor and expense to run a second set of copper pipes to all of your bathrooms and kitchen however once installed the system gives you truly hot (not warm) water instantly and your cold water side remains cold. For those who do not want to go through the expense of installing a return line there are various DIY'ers systems that will give you somewhat warm to hot water to whichever bathroom/faucet that you have installed a sensor valve between the hot and cold water supply lines under the sink. Amazon carries several such systems, for example the Grundfos UP15-10SU7P/TLC Comfort System or the Watts 500800 Premier Hot Water Recirculation Pump system which most people find to be more than satisfactory. This system utilizes your cold water line to recirculate the hot water so it eliminates the need for the additional installation of a return line and is something that most homeowners without much plumbing experience can easily install. The disadvantages of this system include putting hot water into your cold water line so that your initial output from the cold water side of the faucet is warm water, and since most sensor valves close the valves when it senses water tempurature > 98 degrees, your initial output from the hot water side is generally warm, not necessarily hot water. Also from various reviews it appears that these sensor valves tend to malfunction after a few years, either remaining stuck in the open or closed position and have to be replaced. And if you have single valve faucets this system may not work so that you may have to replace your faucets with dual valve faucets.

great price and product
This pump is a little workhorse - one of those that quietly do their jobs and never complain. You need to pick up a flange kit for it to hook it up to the plumbing system - there are no built-in threads at the inlet or the outlet. The one thing to watch out for is to ensure that the motor shaft is horizontal when installed. As pictured, it is horizontal just to give you a reference. Coupled with the sensor valve that bridges the hot and cold water supply in the house, it does deliver hot water to any point of dispensation instantly and that's all I was hoping for. I was a little leery about installing a device that could potentially increase the water pressure, perhaps dangerously, so I'd measured it at a shower head in the house - even though the pressure changes when the pump engages and disengages, at steady-state, it recirculates the water so the pressure remains constant. All in all, this was an excellent purchase.

Great do it yourself item
I use a recirculator pump to heat a basement from the boiler so this was not for a hot water faucet. This replaced an old pump that had always been there. A plumber said it would cost $700 for parts and labor to replace. I figured a pump would cost half that and here I find it on Amazon for under $90. Install was very easy and works great. Very silent. FOLLOW UP: This won't work on steam heated systems like mine is if the boiler is on and steaming the water. It will work great after you turn the furnace off and run the hot water. I am assuming it will work fine for enclosed hot water systems because it needs water to lubricate the pump or it will shake violently. For my purposes it is fine. I don't run it often and the basement is plenty warm when the steam boiler is heating the house. I can run this when the boiler is turned off and the water in the reservoir is still hot.

Practically Screams Quality
This pump is massively heavy, which I assume is a good thing. I have it set to a timer which runs my solar hot water heater. I cant even notice the power drain on my electric bill, which meters down to the hour. (As in, I cant tell the difference from when the pump comes on from the spike in power usage) It's whisper quiet. I cant speak for its longevity because I have only had it a few months. The paint appears to be some sort of heavy enamel that looks like it can withstand anything.Setting it up isn't too hard, there are a few prongs inside it for different wires. It clamps down on the wires so they dont come loose. You have to buy a flange attachment to connect it with a pipe, but that's pretty straightforward too.Overall I like it. It will pay for itself in heating costs in around 6 months if you are doing a solar water heater like me.

Great Pump!
I bought this to replace my old Bell & Gosset hot water circ pump for my house. This pump works like a dream. It is totally quiet, in fact I thought it wasn't running when I plugged it in! Huge difference from my old pump.Amazon was great, delivery, quality, everything. This kind of service is why I have came back to them when I need just about anything!I have had hot water circulation in my house for over 14 years. Iv'e used bronze and cast iron pumps. No difference between the two for peformance or water quality. I highly recomend this pump. I would buy it again. This is the best one Iv'e ever had.
