This system is fuel management reducing your eight cylinder to four your 5.9 v.8 did not have fuel management in 1997

Q: Does this really work on a 2008 Silverado 1500?

Yes it does work. When the active fuel management is running the cyl it shuts off but it still has to be lubricated so it sucks oilinto the cylinders and when it goes off and it will burn the oil in the cylinders and you will have a blue puff of smoke and will eventually foul the plugs in those cylinders.
