Burned and bitter would be more accurate
"Rich and caramelly" is not the description I'd give this. Burned and bitter would be more accurate. This is a seriously dark roast and so the beans come almost black and are very oily. So oily in fact that they can clog your grinder. The burned bitterness is the overriding flavour, overpowering everything else. It's OK in a latte where the milk can mask it best but even so it's lacking the other coffee flavours you might be looking for. It kind of grew on me as the bag went down. One good thing is that I used less coffee as I didn't need to grind so much per cup. One dimensional and very dark but OK.
