Q: I am making a molten lava table and I need to cover a lot of the table how many rocks are in the box is it a lot or are they just heavy?

Since these stones are all natural, no two boxes will be the same. Since we sell by weight, the number of rocks are approximate. There is about 15-25 stones in a box.

Q: This may be a silly question, but will these rocks alter the ph or other parameters of the water in an aquarium?

No I tested these rocks when I got them and they are inert. They will not alter water parameters.

Q: Are these free of calcium? I am setting up a living space for my leeches and they can’t have calcium in the water

A chemical analysis of this slate shows that there is only a trace amount of calcium in these stones. A trace amount is considered to be less than 100 parts per million. Although many people use this slate in aquariums, I would definitely recommend testing the water for calcium before adding your leeches. It would also depend on how sensitive they are and whether a "trace amount" would have any affect on them at all.

Q: Are there any sharp edges on these stones?

Yes. Most of the edges are worn enough so that they are not sharp but there still can be some sharp edges, especially if one of the stone has been recently broken. However, since natural slate is a fairly soft rock, any sharp edges can be easily filed or ground down if needed.
