Q: How would this work as a highlighter?

This would not work very well as a highlighter because it is similar to a grease pencil not like a colored pencil.

Q: What color is the lead?

they come in multiple colors, but I ordered the graphite

Q: is this the aquarellable, does not have it stamped in usual place

The ink/grease stays in place if the piece is dunked in water. As long as you don't wipe your finger across the drawing. I use mine to draw pictures on pieces that I tend to scrimshaw and it works fine. If you rub your finger or a rag on the piece, the drawing will be removed. Hope this helps.
