Q: I have a Canon Rebel, my first DSLR. I need a travel lens. Does the lack of image stabilization make this a poor choice for a new photographer?

This is a fantastic lens! I have never had an issue with image stabilization when using this lens. I love the versatility and range of the lens. I have one of the original Rebel's and also a newer model.I use this as an all purpose lens. At one time I had a 100-400 range canon lens and found that a terrible choice for convenience and for stability. That prompted me to get the Tameron lens and I have never looked back. I also bought one for my daughter who has the rebel xti and it is the only lens she uses as well.

Q: Does this lens work with Nikon D3300

Yes works really well with the Nikon D3300, one note, this lens does not have VC or vibration control

Q: Does this lens work on a D-5200 ?

Yes it will work with Nikon D5200(first hand experience). Spent more than a couple of hours confused as Amazon says it will not work and everybody else says it "should" work. Finally, bought it for my D5200 and it works just fine. Did some more research before buying to understand why Amazon says it will not work. My conclusion - there are 2 models of this lens - one with motor and one without. The one I got from Amazon has an in-built motor so it works with D5200. Its possible Amazon gives compatibility info based on model information sans motor.

Yes, the Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR for Nikon fits my wife's Nikon D50, and she has used it for years. She loves the sharp pictures it takes. To give yourself peace of mind, call Tamron and verify the exact Tamron lens you want to purchase will fit your camera. That's what I did. Tamron makes a great product at a very reasonable price.
