Typically this should be ok, you will require a sound surface to pull the rivnut onto, to make it work, but otherwise should work.

Hi Clare, Not too sure what exactly you are asking. The tool itself has mandrels for M5 Rivet Nuts and M5 Nuts are readily available through Amazon and others (Screwfix, Jewson,etc...).

Don't think so, they are straight forward to use, but the smaller size ones don't need to much pressure or the mandrel could break.
