It is an okay device at best.
It is an okay device at best. As other reviewers have mentioned, you need to calibrate this item with each and every use (which tends to be a hassle). For example, if you decide to take a reading pre-boil, you will have to calibrate it. You will also have to re-calibrate it again to get the post boil OG (yes, you will have to calibrate it twice if you test both the pre and post boil OG). Other than dealing with the hassle of having to calibrate each time, the item seems to be relatively accurate (within .001) to my hydrometer reading.

A Homebrew must have!
Added this product to beer making tools and it has made the process of determining the Acohol content of my beer so easy. To determine the original gravity I only need a drop as opposed to having to fill a large vile. You can use this with hot or cold liquid. The build of the tool is very lightweight as I believe it is made of aluminium. The hard case it comes in is very nice and looks exactly as featured. The adjustable eye piece for focus is a nice feature. I compared this to other brands and this was by far the best cost for the quality. I have used it on multiple brews without any complications or fails. A huge 5 stars for this product!!!

Worked OK until it didn't
Worked for about four batches then reads low, very low. Back to my hydrometer.

Good device, poor case
While the device itself is fine, one of the reasons I bought this is for the case. The case is OK, but but latch that keeps the case closed is some kind of rubiks cube POS. Trying to open the case, I quickly broke it. It is a cheap plastic case, so once the case is broken you are left with a a rubber band to keep it closed. Very disappointing. I still think this is a a good device, but if you are paying more for the case, don't as this is a very cheap, ridiculously poor design.

Does not measure FG without correction formula
Still going strong after 5 years!Be aware that you cannot use this refractometer to measure final gravity before kegging or bottling without using a correction formula for alcohol. Research its use before deciding to buy it. I gave it a three because for me using a calculation is an extra step that can add uncertainty and open your process up to error. It may be better to just stick with a hydrometer.

Not Really Meant for Wort
It's good for what it is but if you're buying this to measure specific gravity of your home brew, don't. The scale isn't meant for that and there is no direct conversion. You can get close but that's about it. You won't get accurate readings. Use a hydrometer instead.

SG is inaccurate
The SG scale on this instrument is not correct. It shows 20 Brix to be around 1.077 SG when it should be 1.083. This may not be a big deal to some but I want my brewing instruments to read accurately. Get the one from More Beer or Northern Brewer.

Works as advertised
I read about this product in a review by Brulosophy. I'm happy with the construction and ease of use, especially for the price. I have yet to find anything I don't like about it. Would recommend to home brewers.
