Great Scale!
Pros: Accurate, low profile, attractive Cons: None really Overall: I've been very pleased with this scale. I opted for the German-branded (Chinese made) scale over the others, hoping for a quality product. Thus far, it's lived up to expectations. The tare function is nice, allowing the scale to be zeroed between adding ingredients (after all, who has time for basic addition/subtraction in the kitchen?). It has no problem with my large Kitchenaid Mixer bowl and all of the ingredients for a large batch of pizza dough. Having grams in addition to lb-oz is very nice. Far better to work in the metric system than to try to convert pounds & ounces to the proper amount. Again, who needs basic math skills in the kitchen? Not with a scale! I haven't quite figured out the usefulness of the liquid measurements scale though. Obviously it assumes a density, so if I'm using olive oil or water, the assumed volume will be different for the amount I put in. Better to use those basic math skills to figure out the mass of olive oil needed, using its density, and then just leave the scale on grams and put that much mass of olive oil in. If you're baking anything with flour, yeast and water, a scale is essential to get the hydration correct. Otherwise, you're purely guessing at the hydration percentage. Does it feel right? Do I need more flour? No need for guessing with a scale.

It looks very attractive and like an ipad is something I just want to use
Firstly my purpose for buying this item is to analyze and adjust the weight distribution on a radio controlled car. I initially considered 4, or one for each wheel, but then figured it made sense to save half the money and just turn the car around. One could argue for just getting only 1 and turning the car but that's a lot more turning and...anyhow, hopefully you get the point. I received these products (2) a bit over a week ago so I can say they have lasted at least that long. I can also say that first impressions of the product are positive. It looks very attractive and like an ipad is something I just want to use. The blue LED display is a little different, easy to read in any light and a refreshing alternative to the black on grey displays on many small kitchen scales. I wont describe in detail the appearance of the product or rhyme off the functions, it's all there in the photographs and marketing material and is pretty accurate. I don't like it when half (or more) of a review is spent revealing features which are already known. Checking relative accuracy across the 4 corners of each scale I found slight discrepancies. Less than 0.5% between the corners on one scale and about 0.5% on the other. This is not a big deal to me and about as good as I personally would expect on a consumer grade product of this price. Of course I would like all 4 corner sensors to read identically and some lucky owners may get just that depending on the sample they receive. If I can be critical it is that the surface of the scale scratched pretty easily when I first used it. I can see that this will continue to happen if I let it and that will lead to a fairly shabby looking item before too long. I have since stuck on a clear surface protector. This will also help stop fingerprints building up on the surface. I want my nice looking scales to keep looking nice. Only when either of these scales stop functioning properly or start to come apart will I provide an update as I'm not one for posting each time I open my sock drawer, I'll leave that to the Facebook crowd. The only other unknown is battery consumption. I use good quality conditioned cells and will report if the power drain seems excessive for a small appliance. Hope this helps with your decision.

Great for Amateur Bakers
I am neither a great cook nor a master baker. However, I would like to be both. I recently purchased a copy of "The Bread Baker's Apprentice", which I also highly recommend, and shortly discovered that success in baking, and scaling recipes, was going to require a good scale with decent precision. After reading many reviews and determining that high precision scales that measure to the 0.01 ounce were a bit outside of my price range I decided on this scale by Soehnle. The precision is 0.05 ounce, which allows me to measure the ingredients for my breads and pizza dough with much more confidence than using volume measure would have done. The precision for grams is 1 gram. This scale is attractive and easy to use. The tare function allows you to add consecutive ingredients to the same bowl if you so desire. I'm a bit more of a planner, so I like to measure all of the ingredients out ahead of time before I start the recipe, and this scale works fine for that method as well. It does retain its settings between uses, so if I have it reading ounces when I turn it off, it is set to go in ounces when I turn it back on. Easy to use, easy to clean, perfect for my needs at this point, I am very pleased with this purchase!

Great in a perfect world
We've had this scale for 4 years now. My wife curses it regularly. It will display wildly inaccurate readings if anything at all is on the counter underneath it, an errant grain of rice, corner of a towel, etc. In a kitchen while cooking, things like that happen. The reason is that the body of the scale sits very close to the counter. The "legs" protrude only a tiny bit further. Therefore, if the body of the scale is resting (even partially) on something, it will be carrying some of the weight and you will get a bad reading. It always seems to need new batteries, too (4 AAA at a time).

It Lasted Two Years
My scale lasted two years. I do not know if that's par for the course or not. I gave it a three star because it was not great and not terrible; though I would not buy it again. It had a few problems besides the lack of instructions. I had to weigh a standard (peach jar) on the office mail scale to make sure my scale was reading correctly. It would, from time to time, weigh 1/2 the correct amount. Therefore, you had to know approximately, what the measurement should be. The scale readings are in blue lettering on a black background - hard for me to read. I bought my scale for $37 in October 2013. I see they now sell for $53 on amazon. That’s too much for this scale.

The scale is very lightweight and thin, much thinner than I expected to be honest. I bought this through the warehouse so it didn't come in original packaging or with instructions but it wasn't difficult to work out. I honestly thought the word TARE on it was due to me being given a non UK device lol, seriously I did! However, when I looked online to get the translation of it then I soon discovered that it is indeed a term using for weighing items. I did feel a little stupid, but just incase you are as uneducated as me in the weighing department it basically takes into account the weight of the item you are measuring the contents in, so for example the bowl you're using and if you press TARE then it takes the scales to zero so the product is weighed accurately. If you already knew this then good on you and good old Google for telling me what it meant. Apart from me being apparently stupid when it comes to scales, luckily these were very easy to use and I managed to measure out two rounds of delicious cookies already with them.

I don't really have a way of testing the accuracy as I don't have calibrating weights, but...it appears to work lol

BELLA BELLA BELLA ...
