Japanese batteries, chinese charger
The charger works fine. The reason to buy this set is because the Japanese eneloop batteries are the best on the market. Last longer, better output, more stable shelf-life… cant go wrong with this brand. Getting a charger as well is just a bonus

charges both AAA & AA
This was a gift and appears to be working well. I want to point out that the charger does recharge both AAA & AA. The charger has a little tab which allows the AAA to fit in snugly for the recharge cycle. I had a difficult time finding that info on the product listing. My only complaint is that the packaging was pretty beat up from shipping as it bounced around in the box and got bent and almost busted open.

Newest in the Panasonic Eneloop chargers, with a pro and a con
I've used Panasonic Eneloop batteries for many years, and I've purchased most of their chargers, which have gone through several generations. All the chargers have worked fine, but the later versions made minor improvements in design and charging speed. Their model BQ-CC55 (white) is the highest-performance, fastest charging model. Mine broke its swing-out AC plug recently after attempting to shove it into a new "TR" (tamper resistant) outlet. I ordered this model to replace it. I was disappointed to see that Panasonic didn't continue the high-performance design of the BQ-CC55, but it still charges faster than the first generation. So, that's the "con". On the "pro" side, this charger has a built-in USB charging port, which could be used to charge some other device via USB, while charging batteries inserted into the charger. So, if the USB charger feature appeals to you, then this charger is a fine choice. Otherwise, if you want the fastest charge speed (and nifty three-color status LEDs), then buy the BQ-CC55.
