1N light natural blonde works! Blends grey hair beautifully with blonde highlights. In the past I used permanent color with peroxide and it made my scalp bright pink and irritated. This Clairol semi-permanent color is gentle on scalp and hair. I used half a bottle, rinsed with cool water and dried hair with cool hair dryer setting. Although it does not completely cover grey hair it leaves hair soft, shiny and gives beautiful highlights.

I had been using Adore semi-permanent dye for over a year and decided that I wanted to try something that looked closer to my natural colour (a dark ash brown). I found Clairol Beautiful Collection and was very nervous to try it out, but it has ended up becoming the only dye I use. For reference, I have fine, wavy shoulder-length hair that is about 30-40% grey. Here are the details you probably want: Pros: -Darkest Brown and Medium Ash Brown are lovely shades. They look good even as they’re fading. -This is a no-mix formula. It comes ready to use in the bottle and you can use as little or as much as you like and store the rest for later use. -It barely stains my skin. If there is anything that does stain, it usually washes out the next morning. -It has very little odor (and I’m sensitive to fragrances/odors). -It doesn’t stain my bathtub or tiles or counter. It wipes right off, even if I don’t notice it right away. (Adore dyes are not quite as forgiving.) It also washes out of towels with just a normal wash. -I typically wash and condition my hair twice a day (I’m a swimmer) and the colour bleeds very little after the first couple of washes. -Application is easy and only takes 30 minutes to process on my stubborn greys. -The colours are blendable. I often mix Medium Ash Brown with Darkest Brown. -When the colour fades, it makes my greys look like light brown highlights. I love that! Cons: -Light Ash Brown pulls too yellow on my grey hair. -Since I wash my hair twice a day most days of the week, it doesn’t last long. I need to recolour every 7-10 days. If I was washing only once a day and not swimming, I bet it would last at least 3-4 weeks. Some people may find that too short of a colour life but I usually have grey roots by week 3 anyway, so I don’t mind. -You need to apply this skillfully and use a processing cap if you want to have successful grey coverage. Other products are forgiving, but this one will “reward” you with almost no grey coverage if you don’t follow good colouring technique. I get excellent grey coverage by sectioning my hair, applying it in thin layers with a brush, and wearing 2 disposable processing caps while processing, to keep the dye moist and my head warm so it penetrates fully. When I tried with only 1 cap, I only got about 70% grey coverage. -If you wash your hair with warm/hot water, the longevity decreases substantially. Lukewarm or cool water will help it last much longer. You can use warm water to wash out your conditioner, though. The colour doesn’t bleed out once your hair is properly conditioned. -It’s more drying than other formulas I’ve tried. I’ve had to step up my conditioner game to make sure my hair doesn’t lose its shine or break. (I do NOT recommend their grey hair product line because it’s even worse for drying out hair.) -The prices vary a lot depending where you buy it. At Sally Beauty you can expect to pay CAD$15.95 when not on sale and $9.99 to $12.95 when it goes on sale. It’s much more affordable on Amazon, with a regular price of CAD$11.95 and the option to Subscribe and Save. -The bottles are not sealed. This is why I don’t add the dye to my Subscribe and Save because I’m too afraid it will blow up all over my groceries in the box. Amazon bags the bottles in a plastic bag about 70% of the time. The rest of the time they just sent them in bagged in a bubble mailer. Yikes. Despite the cons, I love this dye. It’s so easy to apply and so close to my natural colour. I also like how pretty it is when it fades. Definitely recommend!

Product was spilled all over. And badly sealed with a tape (only one bottle out of the 3 I purchased ??!)

I've used a few different shades and the light natural blonde is my favourite. If you're looking for grey coverage use the version in the grey bottle, this one isn't really meant for grey hair. Additionally, sticking with a neutral shade (i.e. anything with N in the colour name) is much better for grey coverage. 6N Toasted Hazelnut (grey bottle) is also a nice colour to consider and is my second favourite, it's a light (level 6) neutral brown shade.
