Gets the job done for engraving tools
This seems like a delicate tool to be engraving hard tools, but it gets the job done if you handle it carefully. On the 2 aaa batteries that it came with I engraved over 100 tools ranging from sockets to hammers to pry bars and other such tools that are difficult to write initials on with a sharpie. It took a half a day of patiently and carefully scratching the initials in with this engraver, but it got the job done. Came with a spare bit too, but found no need to use it yet. When the batteries lost their power it was obvious that it was losing rpms to work as quickly as I would have liked, so I replaced the batteries and engraved another 20 tools. The engraver is easy to use and did disappoint on even one tool I needed engraved. Though the engraving is not very deep, it is sufficient if you just make several passes for each line you wish to make to make it stand out more. Don’t press hard and take your time and the results will be satisfactory.

This is a really nice product.
I was hesitant to buy this, but it has been a great help. Suggestions for Use: 1. I first go over the work I'm doing with a corded dremel. 2. Once that is complete I go back over the work with this engraver. The work I am doing is pretty precise and difficult because it is a soft plastic. This makes it temperamental when in contact with heat. E.G. a corded dremel creates bubbles in the plastic if I am not very careful. With this tool an as accessory I can go back over that work and smooth out such issues. I see some complaints saying it "scratches" rather than engraves. I wouldn't say that's exactly the case. It does take a little bit longer to do the engraving and it certainly eats batteries. However, that's not exactly unexpected. More cordless things have a terrible battery life. It still more than does the job. Use this for precision work where you intend for a softer touch and it will work great. If you're going to do a more sustained engraving at high power I'd still say pick this up as a "finishing touches" accessory. Very surprised by it's quality. Much more well made than I was expected.

Very handy, but needs batteries and tips.
I like this engraving pen very much. I used it for plastic specialty dice (I have not used it on metal or wood) and much prefer it to the Dremel 290 engraving tool. This Folai Engraving Pen, costing about the price of a pizza, is a pretty good value. Mine lasted about 6 months before the little motor began to die, and just didn't have the power. I ordered a second one and it worked again like a charm. I recommend this product for plastic engraving, certainly, but with three reminders: 1) keep a supply of rechargeable batteries handy, because it will eat batteries. 2) keep extra engraving tips on hand (I ordered extras) as they too will wear down, 3) remember it will wear out eventually - the motor is strong, but tiny, and for the price of a pizza I think this is a fine little tool. Most plastics it works on just fine - so I certainly recommend the FOLAI engraving pen.

Good "beginner" engraver pen.
It's a decent engraver that runs on 2 AA batteries. It comes with stencils. There is a small tool needed to unscrew/screw so you can alternate between the five different bits. However, that little screw can NOT be loosened too much because it will fall out, which is what happened. It took me awhile to find it on my carpet. Now I am too afraid to change to a different bit because I don't want to lose it again. But, I think the small bit that's in it now will be enough to do some introductory projects on some cheap glass mugs. I will have to work my way up to a more professional model that is made a little better and offers more stability. This is a good "starter" engraver for beginners like me. It's cheap, lightweight, and portable. Three stars simply because of the screw issue !!

Pleasantly Surprised
I needed a small engraver for harmonica tuning and this one fit the bill and worked well. What I wan't expecting was all the attachments and stencils that came with it. I bought it for one use and discovered dozens of uses. Uses a battery and is not rechargeable, but the battery has not had to be replaced since I got it.

100% worth it!
Extremely easy to use. My handwriting looked no different from using a marker. Exactly what I had hoped for, for engraving my name into my stethoscope I purchased here on Amazon . It was relatively quiet, and easy to hold the pen and object still (the only part that made your hand want to move is the fact you're engraving an object). I've since "claimed" all of my tools, my bandage shears, hemostats, pen lights, etc. and it took less than 10 minutes to do all of them. I do suggest that when you engrave any plastic (or glass or metal etc.) that you consider using some eye protection as you are chipping metal and other material into bits of dust that can easily get into your eyes. I engraved everything over a moist wipe to catch dust and dispose of it, and wore a pair of lab goggles which blocked a shred of plastic from entering my eye. Hope this helps :)

Worthless
DO NOT BUY. This item worked for less than 3 minutes, until the part which holds the engraving-point came loose, that was it. You cannot reattach the piece which holds the point. This is what I get for being cheap.

Way to weak for 40$

This would be perfect with a slightly stronger motor. As it is now, it gets tired quite easily, and therefore does not carve properly.
