This Volume is Packed with Surprises
Hitler discouraged any sexual activity that didn’t produce more classic Aryan Germans to fight in and restock his armies (although with his own mistresses he didn't produce any children). !933-1945 were the years of the Third Reich. The Third Reich resembled an “anti-lust” era. In the Weimar Republic in the 1920’s prostitution was a major industry. “The large number of different types of Prostitutes was unique in Europe. There was nothing that couldn’t be had. The Nazi’s soon put an end to this colourful and decadent variety.” Even Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Information, was a terrible womanizer while pretending to be a faithful mate to his wife Magda and loving father to his six children. When he fell in love with a Czech movie actress and wanted to leave his Arian pro-typical family, Hitler put a stop to it, although Goebbels continued to womanize as much as possible. He was one of Hitler’s most energetic followers and was a master of propaganda and in many ways created the Hitler Image. According to this book Goebbels, himself, didn’t fit the desired Nazi physical image. He was a tiny man and with his lame foot he looked non-Arian. The women he chased certainly didn’t consider him an Aryan Adonis. The possession of porn was strictly prohibited and what remained was used to sell abroad to raise money for the Reich. The private production and collecting of porn was a serious crime. The two-hundred or so photographs in this collection are mostly from a single private collection that managed to survive the war and occupation. Fashion-wise these photos resemble the roaring twenties style of the United States. Rolled stockings and garter belts with suspenders connected to thigh-high stockings were the norm. Even the men wore small, ankle garter belts to hold up their socks. The only real criticism of this book is the rather small format. It is small enough to fit into the inside pocket of a suit or overcoat. The quality of the reproductions is also lacking. Many details that are obviously in the photos are fuzzy and it’s difficult for the reader/viewer to see clearly. Alas, this isn’t the adult subject matter that we will soon be seeing in coffee table editions. The minimum amount of text and captions are in English, French, Spanish and Italian. The reader of this volume will soon notice that many of the individual photographs and people in the photos are the same folks. There are several situations and locations that are obviously from the same photo coverage. Even the fields and forests and definitely the motorcycles are from the same photographic outing. On pages 118 and 119, the model in the top left and bottom right photos seem to be the same person except that on page 119 the laughing model pointing her finger and seeming ready to ask a question of the photographer is wearing a watch and slightly different wig or hairdo than in the photo at the top of previous page 118. The same model appears on page 71. It’s obvious that the models are having fun posing for pornographic pictures and the reader will naturally hope that they survived the Third Reich and its aftermath. This is a definitely a page-turner because there isn’t anything else like it.

This was unbelievable.
The German's showed the same duplicity as the Russian Communists.

A Noteworthy Collection of Pre-1945 Euro Porn
A collection of pornography created during Adolf Hitler's reign of power in Germany is bound to saturated with preconceived notions. Hitler's strange quirks and pecadillos are well known. But other than being the Führer, he and the Third Reich itself have nothing to do with this work. This is a fine collection of black & white vintage erotica (including regular sex, kinky threesomes, lesbian play, and general nudism). It's miraculous that this material survived WWII, but there is nothing here that is particulary NAZI-like and even noteably German. And this is a letdown. It would be horrifically shocking, yet quite compelling, to view top-level NAZI's engaged in lewd, perverse behavior. But that is not the case here. Notwithstanding the titillating title, this is still a noteworthy collection of pre-1945 porn, worthy of a book collector's attention.

Nazi Nastiness (NOT)
Having just received & checked out my 'hot off the press' edition of "Private Pornography in the Third Reich" thot I'd share my reactions to the tome with other prospective purchasers. Firstly, regarding physical size, despite the fact that this book is published by 'Goliath' Press it is, in fact, of a rather small format - about the dimensions of a standard paperback novel - thus the reproduction size for the photographs that it presents are relatively small - most about the size of a 'postcard'. All (200 or so) images are B&W photos - except for one pen & ink drawing. The paper and physical reproduction quality are good. There is only a minimal amount of 'text' provided via a 4 page 'Introduction' that gives a brief over-view of the climate of the times from which the 'collection' of images (apparently all gleaned from basically ONE serious WW II vintage German porn hound's stash!) was reproduced. Within the intro there are a couple of sentences that sort of summed up the gist of this book: "Sex in the Third Reich: this subject is bound to raise wild speculation. Probably because one would assume, a regime that broke all moral taboos would not refrain from unconventional practices. However, it was rather an anti-lust period, where sexuality blossomed more in hidden privacy, unless one belonged to the powers that ruled." There you have it!This assemblage of images is one of those 'private collections' and the 'bad news' is: IF one is hoping to find some outrageous, bent, imagery herein - this book may prove disappointing. The book does provide page after page of naked men & women engaging in sexual acts, and/or just being naked, but - the situations presented are of the most 'common / normal ' fare and the general quality of everything is pretty much on a par with the 'naughty French postcard' genre. The photos are arranged categorically with such chapter headings as : Nudism, Making Out, Heterosexual Intercourse, Lesbian Couples, Oral Sex, Threesomes. etc. The section devoted to Sadomasochism (where one might imagine things could get wild 'n crazy) is only about 8 pages long & contains mostly limp photos of spanking scenarios. There ARE many depictions of sexual acts & full nudity - definitely 'pornography' - but it's all pretty grainy, black & white, awkwardly posed stuff with 'period' looking folk going at it. Much of the content reminded me of similar 'historic' erotic photo compilations from the Kinsey Sex Institute files - interesting & quaint - but not particularly 'hot' by today's standards - if that's what one is looking for. There is no info given as to the source or nationality of the photos.A (different) book that I purchased (via Amazon) that actually provided a plethora of weird historic Germanic sexual imagery & info was the title: "Voluptuous Panic" - which focused on the truly debauched 'Weimar Republic' epoch that immediately preceded the rise of the Nazi rule. Putting it into context - this volume of 'Private Pornography...' is an interesting reminder that 'sex' is often squelched during the reign of fascist totalitarian regimes as a method of 'control' - and yet human nature prevails and erotica still emerges. This book would likely be of interest to those intrigued by antiquarian eroticism but those seeking more transgressive erotic visions should perhaps look elsewhere.
