Animal Man by Grant Morrison 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Book One

Animal man seems to be a joke of a character on paper, and it’s acknowledged in the book that he’s not the most popular of DC superheroes. However, with the writing of Grant Morrison, this volume provides perplexing, intriguing, gruesome, and funny stories with every issue. There’s no writer quite like Grant Morrison, and there’s no limit to what he can do with this bizarre, charming, and titular hero. Heads up! Things will get pretty meta.

Quintessential comics right here. Never read Morrison's work before.

Grant Morrison is the best. They write dope stories. Animal Man is one of those stories. Read it!

This a great book. It’s the 50% watchman, 30% crazy grant morrison and 20% dc editorial. It’s has strong influence of watchman, they take how would a hero live in the real world. The book is very light hearted. Grant put his black magic touch on. My verdict is must have for a strong comic fan. For newer reader put this on your pull list for later. You can see how Mark Millar took from this book for kick ass.

Love book 1!^^^ Where’s book 2? Please, DC, solicit book 2 to complete the set. Too poor to buy animal man omnibus that’s like 300 dollars and don’t want to collect used old trades. Need next book just like book 1 here —in this oversized glossy paper hardcover format.

Primeiro trabalho de Grant Morrison na DC Comics, que começou a lhe dar fama e até hoje é reconhecido como um dos pontos altos de sua carreira. Esse encadernado tem a primeira metade dessa fase. Aqui, Buddy Baker, um homem de 30 anos com o poder de adquirir as capacidades físicas de qualquer animal perto dele por um período de tempo limitado, decide abandonar o trabalho como dublê de filmes e retomar a carreira de super herói (a qual ele não teve sucesso), com o objetivo de se tornar um membro da Liga da Justiça e conseguir sustentar sua família. Por ser um herói de último escalão mais o tempo parado, Buddy tem dificuldades extremas na retomada da vida heróica. Porém a história não foca só nisso, Morrison toca em temas como exploração e direito dos animais, e também brinca insanamente com a continuidade das histórias das DC, com quebras da quarta parede ocorrendo ocasionalmente.

After his work on all star superman, I knew I needed to read more of what Morrison had done. I'd say Animal man is better than his heartfelt superman run. From the b'wana beast and the south african conflict, the coyote gospel, red mask, there are so many stories to love within this first book.
