Big, heavy pen that writes very well.
I was a little hesitant about buying this pen because of quality issues reported over the years. The pen that I got worked perfectly. I flushed the converter out a couple of times with tap water, then tried it with Pelikan 4001 violet ink. The nib is glassy smooth, on the wide side of medium. Expect some bleed-through with the cheap filler paper found in back-to-school sales. In summary, a surprisingly good pen at a bargain price. The seller is excellent as well.

Very good for the price. Good gateway fountain pen. Don’t expect a perfect ink flow for that money!
Looks very good, nice big nib. Metal body fees good in the hand. For the price - it writes well, but you can’t compare it quality-wise with German or Japanese pens. A bit of a gusher, the first half page after starting it floods a little bit but for the price - heck of a nice pen!

Great Entry-level Pen
I purchased this pen when I was new to fountain pens. Wanted to go cheaper until I knew what to expect. What a great pen this turned out to be! I love the weight and shape of this pen. Its very sturdy. I have noticed that some of the paint is starting to chip, but for the price, I cant complain about that. It's a very wet writer which means that shimmering and sheening inks work great in it. Fountain pens arent really good on regular office and copy paper. Because this pen writes so wet, you will have bleed through and feathering if you try to us it on regular paper. Id recommend at least a 90gsm with this one. Overall it's a great pen to introduce you to the world of Fountain pens.

Fun Fountain Pen
Years ago I bought a Mont Blanc 146 because the 149 was too big for my taste. However, my tastes have changed and I love the Jinhao 159, which is the same size as the MB 149. This pen, the Jinhao 159, writes smoothly with just a little feedback. It is a metal pen and seems to be pretty well made, especially for the price. The pen is chunky in terms of girth so I suggest taking that in consideration for example for carrying in a shirt pocket. It can certainly be done, but if you're used to carrying a cheap Paper-Mate ballpoint in your shirt pocket this Jinhao 159 will be a change! So far, I love the Jinhao 159 and I highly recommend it, especially at this price.

well balanced for its weight
Rim of the cap lacks finesse. Otherwise, a decent enough product. Ding on the seller. Pen was obviously used, red ink remnants on the nib and ding on the body, but for ten dollars...

It's like those fancy knives at flea markets.
I have a few Jinhao pens now, and they all look nice. But the fit and finish isnt all that good, and they dont really lay down ink well. But they do lay down ink. They honestly remind me of those cheap decorated knives you can get at flea markets. They look nice when you look at them, and they work well when put in a display. but actually using them makes you think "Theres something better" on this particular pen, I love it. It's a wonderful fit for my hands and the nib is nice. But as It suffers the quality issues I mentioned with Jinhao. The srew on/off cap is rough, theres some pitting in the threads, and I had white flakes all over my shirt after holding it. But this pen really Makes me want to save my money to actually purchase a mont blanc 149 one day. So, I've been using this pen over the others I have, and i have to say that its easily become my favorite pen, only seconded by the Muji. While I'm not certain of the 159 last me longer than a few years, for the price this pen is an amazing purchase.

Horrible pen, ink drys in well.
Horrible pen. Ink drys up rather fast while in the well. Poor product. The Lamy can sit in my pocket for a week and as soon as I'm ready, it writes. This pens performance is abysmal at best.

Large fountain pen
My favorite type of fountain pen. Large enough for me to hold and easy to refill.
