Compared to the 4 others VFL's ive tried this one has amazing build quality. The fact its rechargable is just a cherry on top. Very sturdy design and nothing would randomly unscrew and fall off like the others ive had

I’ve been working with fiber optics off and on for a while now and just picked up this fiber optic visual fault locator, and honestly, I’m super impressed. If you’re like me and constantly dealing with cable issues and trying to troubleshoot stuff this tool is a lifesaver. Right away I noticed when I picked it up you can tell the VFL feels solid. It’s not one of those cheap plasticy tools that you feel like is gonna snap in half after one drop. It’s got a good weight to it. I’ve dropped it once accidentally, and i can't even tell. It’s super comfortable to hold, and perfect size and it fits in pocket easily or i can always tuck it away on a panel. The best feature is its rechargeable and the battery lasts long time. Uses USB c and I've used different ones to charge it no problem. I've let my colleague borrow this and he needed it to stay on for long time while he left his site and it works while it's plugged in. I’ve had this out on multiple jobs now, and it hasn’t run out of juice on me yet, which is a BIG plus when you’re in the middle of troubleshooting a huge network or need to travel and don’t have time for your tool to die. Ive used other cheap ones and they time out and anyone who uses these fiber light pens know that feature is horrible and makes them useless. The laser that comes out of it is super bright, so even in somewhat well lit spaces, you can easily see it shining through the fiber cable. The other main feature is that how you turn it on is by twisting it and the head pops out or retracts and doesn't need dust caps and is totally protected when it's off. It has Super nice hard protective shell case. Honestly if you need a vfl and are thinking about this one just do it. What an upgrade to other crap I've used. The laser is bright and I've tested long runs couple miles and no problems. Makes me laugh the advertising of the high powered ones for sale and going these crazy distances which are impossible. Any experienced tech knows that this type of laser light has a max distance in a fiber cable doesn't matter how strong the laser is. A fiber vfl is a lifesaver for troubleshooting fiber networks but its honestly actually essential and this ones all you will ever need. I’ve tried others, but this one’s definitely the best for the price. You get what you pay for. Definitely recommend it and super happy with this purchase.

This new technology is really great! All the qualities of a standard visual fault locator based on my use so far, plus more! - Small/Compact, but with a little weight to make it feel 'quality' built. (The retractable head keeps it compact) - When I twist the unit on/off, the connector head pops in and out. Being able to retract it keeps it safe from dirt and/or damage when I accidentally dropped it. - Rechargeable, really handy as well, so I don't have to carry spare batteries. - The charge lasts a long time (although I haven't let it fully run down). And' there is a battery indicator that shows remaining life. - The USB-C charging port is a definite bonus, and there's a small charging cable included. - It has a fabric covered 'hard-shell' protective pouch (kind of like the kind you get for a pair of really good eye glasses) that the unit (and accessories) fits in nicely. This is a sleek little unit and will fit easily into a man or women's coat or vest pocket. I'd definitely recommend it based on my use so far.

Bought this because my previous one broke. Been using this almost every day since arriving. I have to say, this is pretty nice and a definite upgrade from the regular style VFLs. This is smaller, solid construction and the fact that it has a built in rechargeable battery is great. The battery life indicator is a huge bonus. Sometimes for the work I do I need to leave my laser light on for long periods of time as I switch locations and before with the AA battery VFLs I would have no idea how much life the batteries had left. I would just always put fresh ones in to be sure and always thought that was a waste. The retracting mechanism is also an amazing bonus. One twist and the head disappears and its protected and will be kept clean. Cool design and Super easy. Nice hard shell carrying case too. Very pleased so far.

1 out of 5 stars – Stopped Working After Light Use I bought this VFL thinking it would be reliable, but it stopped working after about two months with barely any use. I only used it a handful of times on basic jobs, and now it won’t even turn on. Definitely not worth the money if you’re looking for something durable. Disappointed.
