It measures 40mm across the case (excluding the crown). It is a good size without being too large.

Is this made in Japan?

Yes...says Japan on face of watch. Very nice watch for price.

Is this the jdm model? does it actually say “made in japan” on bottom of the dial?

There are two different model numbers. JDM is sbsa043 which shows "made in Japan" in the face. It means the model should be made in the factory in Japan. The other is srpe53 which does not show "made in Japan" in the watch face. It means the model should be made in the factory in Asian countries. Amazon usa announced it was srpe53, but I received JDM sbsa043. Actual buying price is cheaper than Japanese cost by more than $50. I was so happy. That is why I purchased blue dial again after receiving JDM black dial. Please check the website of seiko japan and seiko usa. You will see the fact.
