Review: Trading Wisdom, Distilled: Jim Dalton’s Most Profound Work Yet - Jim Dalton's latest book, Markets and Momentum: How Profiling Gives Traders an Advantage, represents a significant evolution in his approach to trading literature. While his previous works, such as Mind Over Markets and Markets in Profile, were instructive and prescriptive, this new book adopts a more nuanced and contemplative tone. It feels akin to a conversation between a seasoned grandfather and his grandchild—gentle, distilled, yet profoundly insightful. The book delves deeply into Market Profile as a tool to organize information, emphasizing the importance of understanding market-generated information (MGI) over external noise. Dalton's wisdom is imparted not through rigid instruction but through relatable analogies and simplified clarity. For instance, when addressing how to anticipate a trend day, he advises: "You don’t. Rather, you read market confidence from the opening bell, and then you monitor for continuation." One of the most valuable pieces of trading advice he offers is: "We often enter a trading session reflecting on what we think will happen, what we want to happen, or (worse yet) what we need to happen. Learning to read and interpret the Profile and..." This approach encourages traders to align their strategies with the market's actual behavior rather than imposing their expectations upon it. The book also emphasizes the integration of market understanding with self-awareness. Dalton challenges traders to reflect on their psychological makeup and how it impacts their trading behavior. This introspective approach is designed to help traders manage emotions and avoid impulsive decisions. Overall, Markets and Momentum offers practical wisdom and actionable techniques that traders can immediately apply. It addresses common trading pitfalls and provides strategies to avoid them, all while maintaining a conversational and approachable tone. This book is a valuable addition to any trader's library, blending market analysis with self-reflection to foster a holistic approach to trading success.

Trading Wisdom, Distilled: Jim Dalton’s Most Profound Work Yet
Jim Dalton's latest book, Markets and Momentum: How Profiling Gives Traders an Advantage, represents a significant evolution in his approach to trading literature. GENUINE copy of Book or not
The book is amazing but I don’t know if it is genuine copy or not.

In my opinion, this is a book that focuses on guiding traders about how to find ways to overcome the last and most difficult hurdles that can prevent them from being successful. If there is one lesson that I learned from this manual which I will never forget, it's the following: I am the most formidable and powerful enemy of myself every time I trade in the markets. Excellent book that I will keep forever in my collection! As long as you dare to dismiss what is written in this book as worthless, you will see failure after failure.

Nice read but thats it. Dalton went out of material to write about and had to fill the pages with empty space, huge headers and a bunch of random quotes.. Could have also watched a 10 minute YT video on market profile.

I am an active day trader since 2010, a student of Jim's since 2018, profitable since 2021. So, especially after reading some opinions here on Amazon, I was wondering if I will be able to learn anything new from the book. I couldn't have been more surprised by the amount of clarity with which the author expresses his opinions and the abundance of information, that I thought I already knew, but as it turns out needed to relearn. The book is written in a very thoughtful way and the information, that Jim conveys is priceless. The authors gift of communication created a nuanced and special experience for the reader. Jim often repeats, that trading is an art, not a science. I actually think it's both, but this book is definitely a work of art. The book touches base on self understanding (Part 1) and market understanding (Part 2), leaving developing her own strategy to each particular reader. The market understanding part is through the lens of TPO Market Profile. If you think, that market profile is just another gimmick or indicator, it is not. It is a totally different way of looking at the market activity, as opposed to candlesticks. It may be hard for people who are used to 18th century historical charts (yes, candlesticks were developed around the year 1700) to adapt to this relatively new (40 years old) way of visualizing price, time and volume. Market profile is a distribution curve and as such offers a new way of thinking about what did and what might happen. Having said all that, I have to add that the book is light and easy to read. It is a fun read and extremely competent at the same time. I hope my book will be as good (I am trying to write one).

Markets and Momentum may prove worthwhile for active traders, but readers would do well to note a heavy reliance on a specific type of analysis. The word 'Profiling' in the title is largely a reference to a specific way of visualizing market data, the Market Profile. I am not factoring the book's price into my rating, but for me this emphasis means there was very little value here. Most of the book is spent reviewing Market Profile data and showing the user how to consume and interpret Profiles. This was unexpected; the title and description suggested a more generic approach. Sections touching on the psychology of trading were helpful, although this material is only a third of the book at most. It's likely readers have heard some of this before, but it's good advice and insight, and reinforcement always helps. There is a heavy reliance on charts and pull quotes, so the book is light on content relative to the length of ~260 pages. There is a balance between the efficiencies that come with being set in one's ways and the opportunities lost to being hidebound. For me, the proposition 'You should incorporate Market Profiles into your routine' is a time to err on the side of the latter. The advantages of viewing data in this format do not seem worth the investment. This is just not how I want to look at things. If you already use and rely on Market Profiles, you will benefit from this book. If you've never heard of them, there are no grounds to recommend this over other books on trading.
