Quality is quite good, squareness is right on and movement of the sliding vernier is relatively smooth (though not as smooth as the Starrett equivalent). Also comes in a pretty nice case and (minimal) inspection reports. It appears that Shars USA inspects each unit upon arrival from China.

This was supposed to be a fairly accurate tool with an accuracy advertised as ±0.0012" so I should expect my zero point to be repeatable to within that tolerance/distance. However, what I find is that if I zero it on a piece of glass and then run it up to 1.400" and back to zero it is off as much as .005". I might as well be using a tape measure with accuracy like this. I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere for a precision measuring tool.

I always read the reviews (despite the fact that I've been told Amazon pads the reviews to sell products) and some weren't favorable but most were so I purchased the gauge. Very satisfied. Some reviews mentioned sloppiness in the mechanism or assembly issues and others, burrs. I found none of these issues. What I received was as much a professional instrument as any other top name brand would provide. My only issue is the case it comes with which is very sturdy and appreciated but huge making storage when not in use difficult in a small shop. In my opinion, the case could be much smaller but that is a minor issue. Definately worth the money.
