Shockingly Good for the Price
I ordered this guitar not expecting much. How good can a $139 guitar really be? Surprisingly good, actually. It’s very light weight, the mat finish on the body looks great and the neck is nice and smooth. The frets are well finished with no sprouting and the intonation wasn’t bad. The action is a little high out of the box, but mine was playable right out of the carton. It has that classic telecaster twang. This would be a great mod platform, which is what I intend to do with it. For someone looking for a first guitar, this may be the best deal out there.

Great starter or mod guitar
Bought on sale and it’s a great guitar for the money. These seem to be a replacement for the prior affinity line guitars, as the body and neck are a little thinner. That was a key selling point for me as I was looking for something a little bit lighter. It was playable out of the box, but I did a full set up, which included a little bit of fret leveling to get the action where I wanted it above the 12th fret. I ended up putting a hot rail in the bridge pickup slot and a tonerider pickup in the neck slot because that is what my set list requires. But the stock pickups were serviceable.

Decent but the frets
I bought this on sale for black Friday and it was a bit cheaper than regular price. Frets are super sharp. Like nipped and zero filing. Other than that it's pretty decent for the cheap price i paid. Expect to set it up and intonate it minimum as should be expected.

It’s better than you think
A solid choice for any level, especially at this price. I’ve always loved the Telecaster shape, and this one feels really nice. It’s very light, and the neck is very comfy. After I swapped the strings and set the intonation, it has no problem staying in tune. The only issue I had was the input jack, but I plan on upgrading that. I really like the satin finish on the body, and I find myself reaching for this one a lot more than my other guitars. The pickups sound good. The neck is very smooth, and the frets are a perfect fit. I’d highly recommend this to anyone, it plays so nicely.

Very good beginner guitar. Comparable to the Sonic
This is a review for the Squire debut black matte telecaster. I tracked it straight from Washington to Colorado. Packaging was in great shape. The guitar I received, is a perfect starter instrument for a beginner. It was cut correctly at the nut, intonation is good and the action only slightly higher than my preference. The strings are good and I won't need to change them out right away. Any beginner that receives an instrument like this one will be able to scan the code and learn to play. Now, for the nitty gritty. The pickups were slightly high towards the 6th string, so I adjusted those. The jack fit is slightly loose, but works for now. The switch and the pots are good. No grinding and the switch gives a solid click when it is moved between positions. The nut is plastic and cheap, but cut correctly. The bridge is top load. The angles are correct so that the saddles are about as high as they can go. (No floating saddles from lowering the action). This guitar has a plain neck, no skunk stripe and it is plain wood inside the truss rod hole. Very basic guitar. But it has what I wanted, the neck feels identical to my other Squire telecaster. I have the Squire Sonic in surf green. These are great modding guitars. I'm still finishing my Sonic mods, so now I have a guitar to play while I fix the paint on the other one. (I filed an armrest into it among other things.) I am an intermediate player, amateur wood worker and enjoy tinkering. I think Fender/Squire really did a good job of competing with the cheap Amazon guitars!

This Guitar Has No Business Being This Good!
My Squier Debut Telecaster just arrived. This guitar is an absolute steal for the price! I was expecting a mess, but I received a perfectly playable, beautiful guitar right out of the box. The fret ends are perfect, the neck is comfortable, the finish is beautiful, the tuners are just fine and the bridge is pretty nice. The plastic nut does its job. It was already tuned and well set up. I need to lower the action just a little, but that’s just my preference. It’s not necessary. For what I paid, this guitar is a thing of beauty. If you’re on the fence, just order it and be pleasantly surprised. I have no idea how they can get away with this price but I’m not complaining. I have been playing for 35 years and have owned many expensive and cheap instruments. This one is a keeper.

Great value/ mod platform
Squier by Fender Telecaster Debut in matte black is a good deal. Pros: -finish was nice, just try not to touch it with oily hands as everything will show -priced right for a value - Easy to upgrade hardware and pickups to transform into a higher quality guitar Cons: - Plastic nut that isnt cut well, jagged pieces contribute to fret buzzing from open to about the 5th fret - Fret ends at bottom are easily felt, but bot sharp - Tuners arent terrible but will be one of the first items replaced (current tuners ratio leave a lot to be desired, takes a lot of spins to change the note) More cons than pros, however the cons are easily overlooked. Get this is you have the ability to either so a basic set up or have one done for you.

I have owned a Squier Strat for about 38yrs, learned on it, gigged on it, recorded with it, and its still going strong, so when I decided time to get a telecaster, tried some Fender and Squier in store but nothing impressed, neck to thick, sound too weak, just felt wrong, then I saw these ! at this price whats to lose ? worst case , return it and carry on looking. Well it arrived, unboxed, examined and tested, here are the pro's and cons. PRO'S:- 1. Very cheap, in other guitars a con. 2. Light weight, thin body so no shoulder ache. 3. SATIN finish to body and neck so no sticky poly when warm. 4. Machine heads tune nicely. 5. Holds tuning once strings changed (as any guitarist does on a new guitar) and stretched. 6. mine arrived intonated and set up sweet. pickups are fine for purpose , ceramics, may change later but no rush. 7. Playability is good enough that I wouldnt think twice over gigging and ideal for learner. 8 . quality and build are above its price point. 9. tuners and saddles are unbranded but work. CONS :- 1. replacement scratch boards not available ( I wanted a black plate on my black guitar) . 2. saddles and tuners unbranded, may swap for fender ones down the line. Yes I know if branded tuners are important Ineed to buy a Fender tele , but with fenders starting at £700 + and the chancellor taxing more and more, I think spending £120 for this, plus £120 for fender tuners and Saddles resulting in a great guitar equal to a basic £700 fender tele for a third the price is a no brainer, but even un tweeked this is a beauty.
