Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Player

This was a pleasant surprise as PS5 portal experience was better than I expected. I have a 240 HZ Oled monitor and powerful pc with 4090, but wanted to take a lazy and relaxing side to gaming in leisure. I also have a ps5, so I was confused between steam deck oled and ps5 portal, finally settled on ps5 portal as its price is 3 times lesser and even if it breaks or I don't like it, I can buy again or go with phone streaming, that' was my thought train So bought this portal, thinking it will be 1080p only and it will be okay, how wrong was I! To my amazement the screen quality is so sharp and it's a HDR screen. From sitting so close to this portal the experience was as good as my oled (a bit less but that's fine) There was some lag during gaming, then I searched youtube and saw my ps5 has to be connected to router on LAN ethernet cable but not on wifi. I gave it a try by connecting ps5 through ethernet LAN cable and tested playstation portal again, to my amazement there was no lag Then I tested with ps5 settings between fidelity and performance. As usual to my eyes I could not stand 30 fps as I saw blur and headache, however performance mode looks incredible on ps5 portal. Guess ps5 utilizes the dedicated recording encoder to transcode 4k quality into 1080p and stream in extremely efficient format to portal. since the portal screen is only 8 inch the pixel density in HD and close to eyes creates the magic similar to Oled screens. The screen packs a punch and incredible, I had to reduce the brightness to 60% as it's HDR looked intense to my eyes Tried some games for few minutes only to realize it's few hours and midnight when I kept it down. Hope this portal stays reliable over time and stays as I saw in past few days for couple of years

Anyone who is sceptical about the connectivity or lag, just buy this product it is one of the best handheld alternative to any handheld if you are using it on same wi-fi. There is no lag or connectivity issue. A good product to buy id you have PS5

Its a waste of money in India until & unless you own a Ps5. They dont have cloud gaming in India so even buying playstation plus membership is a waste of money.

Makes PS5 portable on the go. Works perfectly on same wifi network but gets laggy with low clarity if you are playing remotely on mobile network.

1) Connect your PS5 via an ethernet cable to your router. 2) Disable HDCP and disconnect HDMI cable to your TV. (optional) 3) Put your PS5 Lan mac address in DMZ mode in your router if possible (optional) 4) Decent internet connection is fine. Use 5ghz wifi or 2.4ghz if speed is more. 5) Charge using PS5 USB port or a 20W adapter not more. Do not use fast charging 65w adapters just to be safe. Once you connect your Portal to any WIFI and your PS5 is in standby mode you can play using it anywhere in the world. Provided your WIFI connection to portal is stable. The WIFI signal strength should be all bars. A little latency will be noticeable in racing games and multiplayer games but it's not a deal breaker. Single player games are great. Overall, this is a fantastic device and made for games like Astrobot and other small indie games. Your entire PS5 and supported PS4 games can be played on this and that makes it a great value. Indian price is a bit high around $250 but you get warranty.

If you’re a parent or a working professional and simply don’t have the energy at the end of the day to sit in front of a monitor or a TV just to play that one game you’ve been thinking about all day this becomes the perfect accessory to just be in your bed and play all you want . To play away from home however it’s a hit or miss . You need port forwarding in order to connect seamlessly . Mobile hotspot works for me though overall a great product , not for everyone but does what it says it does beautifully .
