Just the job and a great gift for my Aston Martin friend

Great product - only wish that there was more in the kit. Traditionally expensive this kit is reasonably good value at £35 but as I said it would be nice if it also included a polish of sorts.

Needed a second wash mitt so purchased this for the other items as well. Used Gtechniq for many years and just does the job.

As a keen car detailer, I am a great fan of Gtechnic detailing products so, before ordering this set, I already had quite a bit of Gtechniq kit: the superb MF4 sandwich drying towel, W6 Fallout Remover, L1 Leather Guard, C6 Matte Dash and QD Quick Detailer (which I use as a drying aid with the M4 towel). Not one of the above products has ever let me down in any way so I hoped that the Essential Wash Kit would be just as good; I was not disappointed. The kit consists of the familiar MF4 towel, a microfibre wash mitt, a 500ml all-purpose spray cleaner and 500ml of GWash Shampoo. To test the Gtechnic kit properly I used it to clean my own car, using the method I normally use: i: wheels ii: pre-clean with snow foam and lance iii: two-bucket (with grit guards) wash method with Gtecnniq mitt and shampoo (I also use an old mitt for the dirtier bottom parts of the car) iv: dry with Gtechniq M4 towel, using Gtecnniq QD as a drying aid. I appreciate that some expert detailers would say that I have missed some essential procedures; but this is merely a brief description of the process, purely for the purposes of the review. I am aware of the other important parts of the detailing, such as decontamination etc., but I was just testing this product briefly so feel that there is no need to over-complicate the issue. I had already used the fallout remover on my wheels before cleaning them so I found the cleaning process quite easy just by using a wheel brush and shampoo (in a smaller container – always use that method until I’ve finished cleaning bodywork) but I then used the APC (all purpose cleaner) for one or two trickier spots on the wheels; and it worked very well indeed….wheels came up perfectly. The shampoo produced lots of rich suds that the mitt was able to collect and hold. I usually use a ‘noodle’ mitt but I have to admit that the finer fibres of the Gtechniq do seem to hold the suds better. With the shampoo, the mitt literally glides over the bodywork, collected dirt and, more importantly, holds on to it until it is released in the rinse bucket. I am familiar with the M4 drying towel, which I have used for years, so I was not surprised by its excellent performance on this occasion I always dry all glass first with the towel and then tackle the roof, always using the matador method initially – so that the towel becomes fairly damp – then spray the towel with QD quick detailer). After making sure that the towel is slightly damp, you can then tackle the rest of the bodywork; spray tiny amounts of QD on to the wet bodywork before drying with the towel. This will help to prevent water marks and will also produce a high shine. The bodywork does not need to be absolutely bone-dry at this stage – just so water-beading has disappeared. However, after towel-drying, I always go over very gently with a dry microfibre finishing cloth (best quality I can find) - just a very gentle wipe – no scrubbing - to produce a higher shine. At the current price of £31.46, this set will save £10 on buying the items individually; makes a lot of sense to a keen detailer like me. It will also make an excellent starter kit. I hope this review helps someone thinking about starting out with detailing; with apologies to expert detailers.
