Excellent accessory
Purchased this as I need to solder some surface mount components as attempting that would be impossible with the original flimsy stand provided with the microscope. The vertical reach of the column is not tremendous, so I will have to be careful using the soldering iron that I don't inadvertently catch and burn the plastic bezel of the microscope with the shaft of the soldering iron. This is something you can easily do if you are concentrating on a separate screen. With a steady hand you could probably just manage SMD soldering with it, but you are probably better off with a combined microscope and display designed for the purpose, rather than the separate Raspberry Pi display setup I have. As a general purpose microscope stand though it is excellent, not Mercedes-benz build quality but solid enough. The ratchet is a bit sloppy, as others have said you need to roughly focus on with the stand, clamp it down then finely adjust the focus on the microscope itself. The case is a lovely bonus, well made and semi-rigid it holds all the bits in one place. Very pleased with my purchase, even if it didn't quite fit my original requirements.

Well made, operates smoothly, and comes with a solid clamshell zippered case
The microscope stand comes in three sections - the rack and pinion slide arm with microscope mount, (ring) The base, with four rubber feet already attached The mounting bracket, with two fixing screws, and an Allen key to complete the assembly. Total assembly takes less than five minutes, and results in a very smart, and very rigid and solid stand. In use, the slide assembly is smooth, and an adjustable thumb wheel allows tightness to be adjusted, so that the slide can be moved easily, without any juddering. The microscope is retained by two adjustable thumbscrews, fitted with plastic buttons, to prevent damage to the body of the equipment. The stand arrived as three components - base, stand, and mounting bracket, all neatly packed in a rigid zippered case. Once assembled, the rack and pinion arm and head can be easily unscrewed, and together with the base, can be rapidly stowed in the case, with enough space to store the microscope, (not included with the stand), which is ideal. This microscope stand is well-made, solid, and operates smoothly - with the bonus of a rigid plastic carry case - it’s an exceptional bargain!!

Good, nice quality but a rather smaller than I expected
It came in a plastic case with a zip for opening and closing it. Once assembled it didn't fit the case so there wasn't much point in supplying an undersized case. I won't dismantle it to fit it back in the case. I'll use the case for something else I expect. It is sufficiently solid to hold a camera without any play. It has to be assembled as expected. An Allen key is supplied to fit the two bolts that hold the bracket onto the base. I was a bit surprised that the retaining ring collar is made from plastic when the main parts are metal. There are only a few turns of thread on it, so some care may be needed not to overtighten it and strip the threads. The rack and pinion raising and lowering mechanism is nice and free of play. The locking screw holds the position of the camera holder firmly. It has a nice high quality finish. Overall I'm happy with it. It's very good value for money.

Sturdy Stand for USB Microscopes
Works great for holding the low-cost USB-powered microscopes. The adjustment screws securely hold the camera/scope to the frame and will accommodate a wide range of diameter. The frame is sturdy as well as stable. When you snug the rail lock thumbscrew, the holder frame moves up and down smoothly. This is magnitudes better than the flimsy, unstable frame provided with the USB microscopes (which are basically unusable for high magnification). One last plus is that it comes with a fantastic case - so no need to purchase case with USB microscope. (photo) Basic low-cost USB microscope in stand with simple slide holder and backlight I made on my 3-D printer (you do need something to hold slides as the base finish bumpiness and reflectivity is distracting depending on your depth of field).

With some patience superb results can be had.
Arrived in a nice case that I wasn't expecting. Though once assembled won't fit back into the case. Excellent quality stand the black turning and tightening screws all appear to be metal alloy. The up and down action is smooth'ish and with some patience superb results can be had with my USB microscope (not included, stand only purchased). I'm impressed and at an unbelievable price.

Works well for the price. The actual adjustment range is 4.5 inches.
It works adequately on my Jiusion USB microscope (which is hopeless without such a stand). It is aluminium (including the drive rack) so it will not be especially durable, but probably adequate for home use. The machining tolerance on the rack is terrible (wobbly), but the clever design of the friction clamping screw means the looseness of the adjustment does not translate into a wobbly held position and the microscope is easily focused. The adjustment range is quoted as 0 to 7 inches (0 to 18 cm). That is a blatant LIE, which annoys me. The length of the milled rack is 4½ inches as a generous measure (4.4 inch). They have measured from the flat top surface of the stand to the top of the vertical post. That is not the adjustment range! Sure you could loosen the clamps on the microscope body, but that should not be counted as “adjustment range”. Wind it to the bottom of the rack. Call that zero. It then moves 4.5 inches as a maximum. That is a long way from 7 inches. It does a reasonable job at a good price. It loses a star for lying about the spec.

I bought this piece of equipment to for a small digital microscope that I use for examining my LP records. It is a perfect fit and the ability to accurately move the microscope towards the grooves of the records precicely is just what I needed. It is built of solid looking aluminium on a decent base so should last a long time. Recommended.

I've had one of the $20 basic USB microscope for a few years and have found it useful, but was frustrated by the poor quality plastic stand that it came with. That plastic stand had no stability and was a real pain to focus and use the 'scope. This nicely-made aluminum stand makes that old USB microscope MUCH more useful because of the stability, adjustbility, and smooth focus operation. While a $20 640 x 480 USB microscope along with this stand is not the equal of a $180 1900 x 1080 microscope, for a total outlay of under $40 you have something that is very usable for the hobbyist in a number of fields. I use it to read laser-etched type numbers on small solid-state electronic parts, to inspect the BGA contacts on motherboards, identify insects, and just look at tiny stuff up close. The metalwork on this stand is really quite good. The base has a little weight to it, and overall finish is better than you'd expect at this price level. I would like to add one caution: when screwing the arm into the threaded hole in the base bracket, go slowly and make sure you are not cross-threading it. I have a tendency to rush things and might have cross-threaded it if I had not slowed down a bit.
