Does not have the software needed to work correctly.
The products reads the RFID. That’s it! Disappointed that there is no way to download the software needed to write the information to the unit like it is advertised!! Other than that, don’t waste your time or money. It doesn’t do what it is advertised. That is why the 1 star. No product support either.

Works!
Got this product just to see if it works and it totally does! Scanned my pups chip and was able to use this for the read. Price is great and really helps if you have any stray dogs around the block.

Works great
It was able to scan ALL 9 of my cats different microchips. Now no one can lie and say that any of my cats aren't mine.

Constant Freezing
It worked for a few months, then started freezing with no way to turn it off. I'd have to let it run out of battery and (after a charge) on next boot it'd freeze again. Complete waste of money.

poor instrtuctions
I tried this on 3 dogs and could only detect two chips. I don't know which microchip was used, so its possible it is not supported. The chips I did detect used FDX-B Animal Identification protocol. The device is very simple to use. Just turn on the device, Scan is selected by default so just hit the round button again. Wave the device around your pet until the chip is detected. The chip information will be displayed on screen and saved on the device. The data can then be uploaded, but that is where the instructions are poor. There are no directions provided and we must "Contact the Seller for software component". This is ridiculous, I'm not downloading software that has not been verified. Here is how to bypass the software: 1). Connect to device, such as a laptop. This can be USB, 2.4GHz or Bluetooth. (Pairing must be done first by scrolling to BT Connect or 2.4G Connect.) I used the included USB dongle to connect via 2.4GHz. 2). Open a new text document on the device. 3). Scan the pet and the information will be populated in the text document window (at the cursor location). The seller should have provided this information. Another improvement would be a storage compartment inside the handle for the USB dongle. It's easy to lose this dongle when the device isn't being used.
