The best in the class
What a marvelous radio this is! I am a media maven; I listen to public radio every day. For years I got by with a Sangean portable but it used up batteries like they were potato chips. So I bought Panasonic rechargeable batteries for it, but found that their voltage wasn't quite right and therefore the radio quality suffered. I figured it was time to buy a radio that was inherently rechargeable. So I read the reviews and selected the DX-286 from Qodosen. When it arrived I was surprised to see its credit-card size. The good folks at Qodosen shoehorned every technical capability into this tiny radio, but it's way over-engineered and became more of an irritant than a convenience; how do you set this thing? How do you turn off the alarm? And the kicker was that the sound was tinny and unsatisfying. I tried living with this for months and finally decided that I owed it to myself to find something easier to use and better quality. A few days ago my PowerByte arrived. Immediately I could tell that this was a substantial product. It is heavy! It has large speakers. But there is tremendous value in this radio. First, it is extremely logical and easy to set up and use. When you turn it on for the first time, it automatically scans and stores all available FM stations. And designating a particular station as a favorite (there are 9 spots for this) is as easy as doing so in a car. Everything about the design is simple. There is a nice, old-fashioned dial for power and volume. The buttons are at the top and have simple functions. The EQ button gives you a choice of three settings - one balanced, one for speech (which lessens the bass) and one for maximum bass. The speakers in this radio are superb. They sound good at any volume, but if you want to crank it up for, say, a party, you could not find anything better than this. The unit is rechargeable through USB. It takes about 3 hours of recharging to run for 20 hours...although you may want to just leave it plugged in. Unlike some other units, this one can run with the charging cable plugged in. I have not yet tried it with Bluetooth, and I have no need of plugging in SD cards or a USB drive. For me, the PowerByte serves its purpose as a superb portable, rechargeable FM radio which, based on my many years of experience with audio, sounds just right. Highly recommended.

Strong FM reciever. Powerful & durable.
I bought this for use at a drive-in theater. I have a blown channel in my car radio and this was a cheaper solution than buying a while new one. A cheap radio simply will not due. It's needed to be powerful enough to pull in weak signals and durable enough to hit the rocky ground without damage. The weight is hearty. Much heavier and more durable than i actually expected. The handle is permanently fixed. Nothing to break. The antenna feels strong and well attached. The power and volume button are the same. Allowing for simplicity of use in the dark. Pulls in the weakest of fm signals without even extending the antenna! Which really surprised me. It fully charged in a couple of hours and I was able to watch 2 full movie (about 3 hours of fm) and about 20 minutes of Bluetooth and I hardly touched the charge. Wasn't even reduced by one bar. If you need to spend an extra few dollars to ensure a well made, strong fm radio. This was worth the money. Nobody makes a good boom box with a strong fm reciever anymore. It took a little research. But the Avantree Powerbyte is definitely it!

More boom for your buck.
Your old boom box never sounded this good. This has an excellent mellow sound, strong bass, soft highs. I knew I needed this after watching the video review from Howard Abraham, and I have to agree with him that this likely has more bass than anything close to this price. I used a sound analyzer app on my phone to see the frequency response curve for this at the default equalizer setting. It is relatively flat from about 50 to 10,000 Hertz and rolls off at both ends, but it seems to drop off lower at the high end. Listening proves this out. I can clearly hear the string bass player pull his bow across his strings at 67 Hertz, but the highs for the other instruments is vey quiet. This sound will be pleasant and soothing to most listeners, not true Hi-Fi, but amazing for a $100 portable. The controls are intuitive to use, large with large easy to see markings, and a positive feel. The handle does not move, but is well placed and very sturdy. The whole unit is really solid. This is surprisingly thicker than I expected, real chunky. It has large soft rubber feet, and that’s good; because if you turn up the volume, you can really feel this thing vibrate. The radio is like all the other “scanner” radios I’ve encountered; picks up strong local stations well, but struggles with weak or distant ones. The micro SD card player works well, but I haven’t seen the ability to work with folders that some reviewers claim. I liked this so much, now I want to try the Avantree Boombyte!

Perfect Sound; No Pairing with Other Speakers; Annoying Auto-Off
Love, love, love the sound on this small unit. The bass is at the perfect range where it doesn't hurt my inner ear, but I can feel it in my chest. So many modern speakers get this wrong. PLUSES: * AMAZING sound with perfect bass that cannot be topped. Comparable to a Sono Era 300 ($449) in quality. * Compact and portable. * Solid build quality you can feel in the controls and weight. NEGATIVES: * FM radio is not so great; feels tacked on. Just unnecessary. * I keep it plugged in and it shuts itself off continually on Bluetooth mode if it does not receive sound for more than a few minutes ... on AC power. The only way to turn it back on is to turn the volume knob all the way off and then back on. Which is beyond stupid and annoying. I have reached out to Avantree support about this and will update my review if I learn anything useful, but I checked the manual and see no option to change this setting. * Does NOT power off automatically when on Auxiliary mode and receiving sound via 3.5mm cable, but there is a lot of noise via this connection. I'm troubleshooting this presently. * Worst of all: it cannot be paired with additional Avantree speakers. This speaker's sound is so great I want to buy at least 3 more and pair them together. But Avantree won't let me give them all that money.

------- After 1 Month: Hahaa I click to give compliments for the Avantree POWERBYTE and there appears Underwear I bought - very funny but does not matter. Both Products are good, and the Sound excellent (not of the pants :) I have 3 Avantree 850 already and now the bigger but still very mobile PowerByte. When the Bass started I got a Wow Feeling and a stupid Grin in my Face. The Sound of the 850 is already very good for its Size, and the PB keeps that Ratio Bass per Kilogram :) I am very happy with that Radio ( it is much more of course, SD, USB, BT ...)

I just received this and I'm really impressed! Banana for scale ;) For context, I consider myself an amateur audiophile, having accumulated some of the more high-end audio devices (including a pair of Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones, a Bose SoundLink Flex Bluetooth speaker, and a Sony home theater system with a dedicated subwoofer). Enough with the bragging and back to this new addition to my collection. I wanted something with a radio for when I get tired of my music collection. Naturally, I spent an ungodly amount of time searching and I'm really glad I finally went with this. The sound quality, first and foremost, is amazing. Almost indistinguishable from my Bose, although not quite (this is high praise). It comes with three equalizer options: a balanced mode, a voice mode (with suppressed bass), and a bass-boost mode (as you can imagine, this mode literally shakes my table). I mostly use the balanced mode as I appreciate the full audio range - the highs, mids and lows - all of which are rendered excellently by this ELEGANT little beast. Besides sound quality, the FM reception is top notch. Without having to extend the antenna, I receive up to 10 clear stations. It is nice that you can assign favorite stations to quickdial numbers. Bluetooth connect with quick and breezy, and the music play is awesome. There are options to play music from an SD card, USB flash drive, or AUX cable, but I don't see myself needing those. This is becoming a bit of a ramble, but I hope this review makes you buy this device. You will not regret it!
