It is very sturdy. Max Loadable Weight 260 lbs. And it's really big, the basket part is thick.

Can I remove it for cleaning after assembly?

Of course you can, it is removable.

Will it be a lot of work to put together? I do not like the tedious assembly.

It does take a while to put together. I spent about an hour in total. Everything is well marked though and picture directions are pretty easy to follow.
