Watercolour Flowers (Ready to Paint) : Tait, Wendy: desertcart.co.uk: Stationery & Office Supplies Review: Excellent book - I love this book, it has enabled me to produce several paintings I'm quite proud of. I'm not good at drawing so the tracings helped me get straight to the interesting bit! I found her step by step guides extremely helpful, and there are lots of photographs of the different stages which helps a lot. Even though I didn't have all the colours she used I could still follow her instructions and produce good paintings. She has given me a lot of confidence to continue painting flowers, which I had thought were too difficult for me to do until I used this book! Review: Good art book, helpful - Lovely explanatory book

Overall a good buy
Good book although I did find some of the tuition a little confusing and as I’m a beginner I do not have the colours of paint that were used so had to make my own interpretations. That being said I did enjoy painting the projects in this book, it’s an ongoing thing but am on my third attempt. The tracing were very helpful as having not done any drawing for over 40 years I had lost my confidence in my ability. Overall a good buy for me.

Good clear instructions, teachniques and illustrations
Easy to follow instructions. His techniques are particularly useful. If I don't have the named colours I can match up to the pictures by mixing my own water colours.

Waiting for 'daffodils' to dry
I'm in the middle of painting 'jonquils and daffodils' and loving every minute of it. I have previously painted 'poppies and daisies' from the same book and I was seriously pleased with the result - so much so that I actually framed it. Wendy Tait uses quite a restricted palette for these pictures so not too expensive to get the correct colours although I did bottle out of one which was £6+ and am trying to make something which is near enough from paint that I already have. Really helpful step by step instructions which is going to prove very helpful when I eventually tackle the bunches of flowers later

Read the product description carefully!
I'd like to say immediately that the completed floral panels in this book are beautiful - the book is a worthwhile "keeper" for that alone! The product description needs to be underlined though, especially for the absolute novice, for the "ready to paint" statement is misleading. Some work is required before the painting starts. A decent watercolour pad is an extra, for example, and the design is then traced onto the paper by the novice themselves. After that, it's up to the learner to copy the colours (with their own paints, of course) from the book, so the effect may be different in actual practise, for although the author states the colours she uses herself, she doesn't actually give the brand name she uses, and cheaper brands will produce a different shade. For myself, I find the constant referral needed from instructions to separate pad disconcerting - it breaks the concentration! Maybe a better idea for the "L" plate holder would be smaller finished illustrations provided with a pre-printed outline beside or below, on the same page? Once confidence is gained, a couple of tracing illustrations could be at the back of the book, with relevant guidance. - ? This is only my view of course, and we're all interesting people due to our differences! It's not quite as simple as a first quick scan of the description suggests - so be aware of that, fellow greenhorns!

Watercolour Flowers
I decided to try this book to enable me to get out of my comfort zone (painting landscapes and buildings). I have always struggled with drawing flowers but this book has the tracings for the flowers and so you can concentrate on the actual painting. What impressed me the most was the fact that there were A3 and A4 size tracings all of which are re-usable. this means you can paint the picture of say roses and then paint it again using different colours. Excellent value for money.

Excellent book
I bought this book as I had just started water colours. Easy to follow tracings and hints on how to go about getting the best result. Absolutely delighted, easy to take along to my afternoon art class.

I’m writing this as a beginner as that is what I am. I received the book yesterday and painted these yellow roses today. The book has nine projects, five of which are step by step. The instructions are clear, concise, and include a picture with each step. The tracings are easily transferred to watercolor paper. I used Saral transfer paper along with a tracing tool. I don’t remember its name so I’ll attach a photo of it. Following the instructions in this book has boosted my confidence, and I’m looking forward to painting another. Recommended for any and all beginners.

The book itself + guides are very nice, and the pictures also very instructive. I like the amount of take-out pictures. The artist instructs you to draw up the flowers with a 2B pencil and then transferring it by placing it downward onto the paper and using a solid, smooth item to pres/go over the image to leave the graphite lines onto the paper. I found that a bit strugglesome. So I used a black transfer paper instead, but this only worsened the issue (as you can see in the photo). I do think there are a lot of great tips in the book, but if you can h try to draw the flowers yourself. Not only is it nice practice, it's also more convenient in the long run. If you want to use a light board instead, make sure to use one with AT LEAST 4000 lux, for proper background lighting, otherwise you are not able to see through thick watercolor paper!

Metto in fondo lista colori usati. Marca cotman di windsor e newton(?): Cadmium Orange, Permanent rose, cobalt blue, cadmium lemon, indigo quinacridone gold, quinacridone magenta, brown madder, cobalt violet.
