Savu Smoke Bags - Hickory Wood (Strong)

It didn't work. Kitchen had a lovely aroma of smoke but the food didn't. On inspection of the bag after cooking there were one or two small holes where it looked as if the bag had been crushed and the wood chips punctured the outer bag. Checked the unused bag, (I purchased two), and that was the same. A good idea and will probably work with an undamaged bag but I will not risk another purchase in the hope of getting a good bag.

Having taken up the use of oven bags available in all supermarkets with added spices, my husband and I thought we would go one step further with our cooking by using these heavy duty bags as an alternative to using our outdoor smoker. They were disappointing. The flavour of wood chips did not come through, they are expensive and I would not use the again.

Was expecting a stronger smoky taste with this bag considering it was listed as (strong) Chicken wings although tasty were no where as neqar as smoky as i expected. Not sure if i had the temp right perhaps but rather expensive to experiment with! so probably won't try this again.

What a disappointment! I chose these bags specifically as they were listed as "strong", and that really is a complete misnomer. We tried cooking chicken in the bag and really struggle to detect any smoky flavour at all. And for the price they are charging, I really would have expected a strong flavour. Maybe if you cooked something like fish which does not have a strong flavour, you might notice a difference, but to be honest you get a far better effect much more cheaply by chucking some wood chips or sawdust on the BBQ. I certainly won't buy this again and would not recommend it to others.

Not used yet but I can smell the smoke from pouches so a GOOD sign!
