LOVE IT!
Love the straight forward learning approach this book has to offer, along with the immersion and repetitive exercises, as this is the best way for me to learn and comprehend. The whole workbook is in Japanese, down to the instructions, so the accompanying Translation & Grammar notes Book is vital is you are introductory or beginner level….but I’d only recommend this book if you’re already familiar and have memorized the first 2 kana, as this book doesn’t teach you, or hold your hand in that regard. A CD also comes with the workbook which is nice, but I don’t have a CD player, so I can’t use it but you’re able to download the accompanying mp3 files on the publishers website for free, which is very helpful. I can see why this book is so popular.

Not a lesson book... this is a workbook series.
If you're going to use this as supplemental practice, great. If you're buying this thinking it is a replacement for a book like Genki 1... you're in for a rude awakening. This book presupposes a certain level of comprehension. It also doesn't explain grammar points. It just shows them, and without translation. So, if you're getting this... just know that you'll need to have a separate source for your grammar and vocab study. Use this book with a teacher to guide you OR as a supplemental workbook. Done that way, this book is great. Used as a primary lesson book... it's insufficient.

The cover is creased.
The inside looks good and new. But the cover has a big crease, idk whether its because of the delivery or because its not well-preserved.

Good material but need previous experience
It’s a begginer book but level 1 or zero completely in Japanese, good challenge if you don’t speak Japanese

SO HELPFUL
I CANNOT stress how good this book is! Like most people say, it’s all in hiragana, but the kanji is broken into the hiragana so it helps with pronunciation. A good addition to something else like duolingo, this book helps with basic, natural sounding conversation

Received my textbook today
I needed this for self studying. I like the fact that this textbook is fully in Japanese. I know hiragana and katakana already, so it's very easy for me to understand. Also it arrived super fast. Thank you so much for this, I'm really happy :)

I use this book with my Japanese teacher. I got it before I started with her and was a bit lost as it is ALL in Japanese. But once I got over that initial shock, I found the book much more useful than duolingo. It goes into the grammar and more importantly into the connectors and which connector to use with what. My Japanese has improved so much already and we do one chapter a week together. Make sure you have a CD player or you find the soundcloud link for the audio tasks, as they really help with the listening abilities.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it because of many bad reviews here but turns out it wasn't a big deal. The main book for the exercise is in Japanese only (of course like the JLPT) but they give you an example of what to do to each exercise. So in one book (Red - Japanese exercise), you have the text in Japanese, and in the other book (Yellow - Grammar + vocabulary), the translation in whatever your book is translated into. The Japanese exercise book comes with a booklet answer at the end of the book, which is of course in japanese. It's not complicated... And I also self-study. Tho I can't use the CD because I have nothing to play it, it's super easy to find the MP3 on the web. (That's what I'm doing) There's some kanji but with the hiragana above so, it doesn't matter if you can't read kanji. The grammar section it's nice and helps to really understand the meaning of the word/particle. Also, there's in each (25) lesson some useful words and information.
