The words are child-like, yet deep. Kids can understand and the rhyming and pictures keeps them engaged. I bought this one because of When God Made You. I figured the author had to have another winner and he did. Buy it for your own kids and other people’s kids. Review: One of our favorites - My son loves reading this book and discussing the illustrations of the little girls and their two pets. I love the writing and especially the message this book brings. As an intentional minimalistic i typically borrow books from the library vs buying and this book.. I had to own. I enjoy having this by my sons bedside and how he willingly grabs it to read every night. Highly recommend for the message it brings and intriguing illustrations it shows.

I don't like to say something is 'better than'
Where to begin? I've said it before (when MPT's 'When God Made You" came out a few years ago and I bought 8 copies), these two books by Matthew and illustrated delightfully by David Catrow, absolutely take the top spots in classic children's literature for a modern world. I don't like to say something is 'better than', but for me, these are my 'go-to' books for gifts to new parents and young families. They topple 'I'll Love You Forever', 'Goodbye Moon' and 'The Velveteen Rabbit'. Matthew's simple phrasing and endearing thoughts include an honor and respect for both the Lord God and also for our unique selves. He conveys to adults and children alike that God is for us, He loves us, He made us in His image, and He plans on following through with all His promises. God wants us to enjoy ourselves, enjoy His creation, and every day, God wants us to begin again a grand adventure with Him and with each other. This book is colorful, fun, lots of cool pages with shapes and animals and flowers and interesting things to seek and find. The artwork is unrivaled. What else could you ask for? Oh, LOL, it's less than ten bucks! ;)

Illuminated with Heart
When it comes to truths about myself and God, there is a big difference between *knowing* and *feeling*. This book, along with MPT's previous book "When God Make You", uses beautiful language and rhymes that made me, an adult, feel so incredibly loved, affirmed, and encouraged. It is so encouraging to have a positive book like this to share with children to help them feel these truths too. And perfectly complementing the story, the illustrations are beautiful and they convey a sense of wonder with God and the world. It's also lovely for the main character to be a black girl, so that children who aren't always able to see themselves in stories are able to. I highly recommend this book for all the children in your life! "And if you ever feel scared in the darkness of night, remember the shadows are no match for God's light."

Absolutely love this book and the author
I recently found this author, and fell in love with his books. They are very well written, and the illustrations are amazing as well. My grandson absolutely loves it and gets me to read it to him almost every night. It is great to find a Christian author that puts out books that are inspirational and educational for children.

Beautiful Message and Illustrations
"When God Made Light" is a beautiful book both in its message and the illustrations. I adore the fluid and easy rhyme, but I especially like that it's not the typical God made light creation story. It's final message is very positive and a great way to encourage children. The illustrations are just stunning and creative. This would make a wonderful gift and addition to both family and ministry libraries.

Lovely book for all ages
This delightful picture book continues with the same endearing young sisters featured in When God Made You, which was also illustrated by David Catrow. The whimsical drawings will delight children while the profound message sinks into their hearts. The light itself is like a character, first shown by the sunlight streaming into the room as the girls pursue art on the floor. Their sweet cat and dog participate too. The text talks about when light began and how it expanded and glimmered, making dark stop being dark. It moves from rejoicing in light’s creation to sharing that God put this light inside each person. It explores what we can do in the sun and when the moon shines. Other sources of light are included. The assurance that shadows are no match for God’s light. “The day you were born, God said, ‘Let there be light!’ So beam light the sun; glimmer like a star. And wherever you go, dark will stop being dark.” I enjoyed the book, but some of the rhymes seem forced. I think they could have been polished better. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
