Modern Art
First off, about my demographics. I am an early thirties millennial, MTF transgender girl. I don't have a time machine, I've never been to the fifties, and I don't think I am remotely in the target market demographic for this thing. But it is wicked cool, very well made, and suits my taste for having artsy items absolutely nobody else has.The wooden box case honestly reminds me of the finishes in a McDonald's restaurant as they were in the nineties when I was little; it is as woodsy minimalist as could be. This is certainly intentional, designed to intimidate and confuse the eye into looking inside where the real action is.The black aniline leather interior is top notch quality. It is brutal looking in a way yet at the same time exceedingly gorgeous to behold. It is extremely comfortable too, and very firm. It is a reward for those who dare to brave to sit there. As for packaging and delivery: I bought on a deal from Amazon, and paid extra for room of choice delivery. Thanks is due to the two guys with CEVA Logistics who delivered it; they did not have indication on the ticket that internal delivery was paid for but they quickly agreed to do it anyways including the flight of townhouse stairs this thing needed to go up. It is extremely large and heavy, even more so when in its box. It took me plus the two delivery guys to wrestle it up the stairs, and we just barely were able to do it. I battled onward on my own to wrestle it out of the shipping materials, screwed the legs on, tipped it upright, and sat down on it. Later on I battled to hack apart what remained of the unwieldy carton, almost damaging my favorite painting in the process of shoving it out of the way. Bring a very good box cutter to the party, you will need it.But it is all worth it.Other thoughts.Does it nap good? I think if you are under six and a half feet and 400 pounds, you can comfortably nap perfectly flat on it. This is my guess, I am considerably smaller than those numbers. This sofa is definitely senior sized. Is it pet proof? You could wipe just about anything off the leather, but I wouldn't tempt a gerbil to chew on the wood. The leather is very thick, it is not going to tear easily. I don't think a Cadillac has anywhere near this good of leather, honestly. What other ideas does it give me? If it had a fourth side and a leather lined lid, it would be a wicked cool sarcophagus. If I had two of these facing each other, it would be a cozy leather bed impossible to roll out of, like the ultimate crib for two. Imagine if one of these had a stainless steel case...
