First Colony Organic Whole Bean Coffee, Mexican Harvest, 24-Ounce

I don’t like burnt roast. I prefer dark with nothing added. Pleasantly surprised with the Rainforest Blend. A little fruity, very smooth and the roast is great whatever it’s called. I’ll be sharing these beans because any new coffee I find, priced right, is worth sharing with a friend and these are great!

Very fast delivery! I ordered this because it's organic and whole coffee beans. I can grind it myself as needed, so the rest of the coffee beans stays fresher longer. If you grind it yourself, it's has a fresher and better flavor. I have noticed that the pre-ground coffee is way too strong and bitter because it's been ground too much/too long (finely ground). I prefer course ground to the finely ground. This is a 24 oz. bag and in my opinion, is a decent price, for being organic. I have been drinking this coffee for years.

The Peruvian Andes Gold has been my go-to coffee beans for over 12 months now. I love the smell and taste of the coffee. However, the latest batch (Oct 2023) doesn't give the same taste for some reasons. The roast seems to be inconsistent as well. Some months, I would get batches with lots of debris or crushed beans. Although the value is great, I'll be looking for another roastery and cancel my subscription if I can't find the original taste in the next shipment.

I've been buying this for years now. It seems to nearly always be very freshly roasted, so it brews a delightful cup of coffee. Make it as robust as you like to your tastes. Never bitter, unless you brew it too strong. Honestly, I can't imagine why anyone would say its not good, unless you have a VERY specific flavor and perhaps you love a dark roast so intense, it tastes BURNT. This is well balanced, so it may not be for everyone, but honestly I prefer it to the Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee for everyday drinking. And I DO mean everyday!

Some reviewers have complained that these beans are too oily, which I don't understand, as I expect freshly roasted beans to be oily and flavorful, which these are. If they' sat around a warehouse for a year or two and gotten stale, then they tend to be dry and lack flavour, which these do not. These are the absolute best tasting coffee beans I've found for the price. They are a medium-dark roast with lots of flavour without any bitter-burnt taste of many darker roasts. I make a large moka pot for 16 oz of espresso"ish" coffee with hot milk in the mornings, and a less strong version in the afternoon in a French press that I enjoy black with a desert after lunch. These beans are wonderful whether brewed strong or a bit weaker, whichever is your preference.

Update: I would describe the flavor of the last 4 bags I purchased as Tin and Bitterness. I keep buying it, hoping it will return to it's former glory, (It was truly that good.) I loved it so much. I'm so sad. Don't know why it changed. But it did. I did taste test with my friends and they all hated this coffee. I wonder what changed? Oh well, back to the quest for coffee as good as this one used to be. If Bitter Tin is the flavor profile you are looking for, then this is now your bean. Old Review:I have looked for years for coffee this good! Get a French press and a bean grinder, buy this and never look back. It's such a delight to share with friends. I don't say anything, just make them a cup then watch their face light up. Without exception they all look pleasantly surprised and say something like: "This coffee is SO GOOD!" I have given for gifts and earned all the good friend points I could ever use....and I would use them all on this coffee. Bonus, low acid, so that second cup won't mess with your stomach. If I only drank this coffee for the rest of my life, I would not feel cheated at all. Desert Island? Bring this coffee ;)
