Had to secure a room in the house where I store video equipment. Existing lockset was an antique box lock that could not do what I needed. A padlock to secure the room wasn't an option, so I chose this unit. I find installing locksets of any kind to replace existing to be challenging. After some false starts and adjustments it got done.

Works great. Strong, easy to install.

I had to return it though because my place is a rental & I dont want to keep fixing it up for slumdog millionaire lol.I got the same type in a deadbolt style.

It’s a great design but the quality of machine work is primitiveFinally junked it and reinstalled the old one.I’m a finish carpenter I know junk when it’s in my handsTo Bad I wanted it to be work but not the case.

This lock is exceptionally well built. The lock seems like it came out of a time machine from an age when things were sturdily built.

Better door lock than the simple horizontal striker into the jam deadbolt type This is a really high quality commercial quality security door lock. It is the type that is the better design than the normal too common type of deadbolt. That poorer design works by having a long “deadbolt” stick out of the door moving sideways and stick into a hole in the door jamb. The deadbolt is never long enough to go into solid wood framing. I have attached a couple of photographs to show standard wood framing door framing. A rough-in door frame is the unfinished framing ready to receive a door kit. The rough-in frame is made of strong nailed together doubled 2x4 lumber. The door kit is made up of the door, itself, and the weak trim material called the door jamb. This doorjamb is made of weak ¾” thick wood. Weaker less secure locks have a striker latch, or deadbolt, that only goes into the weak ¾” thick door jamb. This poor design makes it easy for the bad guy to kick in a door by breaking the weak ¾” thick door jamb. You can make this weak type a little bit stronger if you install very long screws all the way through the striker plate, through the ¾” thick door jamb, and finally into the much stronger doubled 2x4 wood framing. However, a thief can still jack the door frame apart just a little bit sideways and the door is open with the lock never having been touched. This drop-down type deadbolt is a much superior design to the poor design of the too common horizontal sideways moving deadbolt. Of course, you still must use very long screws to reach through the jamb sideways all the way into the much stronger doubled 2x4 wood framing. But you also use long screws screwed through the inside wall, instead of the jamb, all the way screwed into the stronger doubled 2x4 wood framing. This better system has screws screwed from two perpendicular directions for more strength. AND this better design stops the thief from being able to jack the door frame apart to gain entry. This particular drop down deadbolt has a unique extra security feature that stops the lock picking thief. Just about all cylinder type locks can be picked very easily and quickly if you know how. To stop the lock picker, this lock has and easy to twist set inside dead latch knob.
