Varathane 381120-2PK Water Based Wood Stain, Quart, Ebony, 2 Pack

All I know is I mixed it with a lighter color stain and so far our deck looks great. Easy to apply, no difficulties whatsoever. I did completely prep the deck prior to staining.

For being water based this stain goes on thick and smooth and is very glossy. I was impressed and I would recommend it.

Use this for many of my home woodworking projects. Goes on well and settles quickly. Makes regular pine look much better.

I have used Varathane for years and in my opinion, it is definitely the best! After using another brand (to try it out - I like to give other brands a chance), I was highly disappointed. I stripped that finish off and used the Antique White from Varathane and was absolutely thrilled with the results. It applies evenly, dries nicely and when paired with Varathane polyurethane, makes the perfect finish for my projects!

It came quickly. I usually use Minwax but thought I’d give this a try. I’m glad I did. It works good. So far, I’ve only used it on White southern pine, oak and maple wood. It really brought out the wood’s texture and grain. Remember that this is water based. So, use it with water based stain and finish. If you only have oil based stain and stuff then just make sure this pre stain dries 100 percent before applying stain.

I did my door and now it looks like a bird nest. It is very sticky and still is not really dry and I live in Texas. We did it 3 weeks ago.
