Item came yesterday and is already 2 weeks out of date. Opened them and they are starting to go stale

Short sell by date
Lovely product BUT ordered on 11th September, delivered on 12th September & expires on 24th September! This is chocolate, how long has it been on the shelf waiting to be sold at full price? I had ordered it for part of a birthday gift for a friend's birthday on 3rd October, but it will be out of date by then. Not good
