Really interesting series. Sure there must be more on way.
Both books have interesting plots, sound science fiction basis and strong characters. This 2nd book has extended the plot strongly by adding territory explored and new characters. The basic plot is the world post Yellowstone volcano super eruption. Introducing parallel Earth's via quantum physics, some students in Nebraska take refuge in another earth without the volcano eruption and no people in it's evolution. The story captures people relationships and government development in this new world.I'm looking forward to a third book I hope is in the works.

Always fun to read Dennis Taylor
Another fun book from Dennis Taylor, very fluent writing, good jokes and interesting plot lines.Having said that, I think the characters are shallow and do not evolve over the books, and there are many stereotypical characters and dialogues that don’t feel real. I would not put examples because of spoilers.By the way, is Bill from the mad science lab the same Bill from the skunkworks at the Bobiverse???

Well written fun
Mr. Tyler has a great voice and is easy to read. Characters are well formed and easy to like and or hate. Great story, very inventive, unlike any I have read before. I believe I will be reading more of his work. Good sense of humor in the right places. The pace of his writing is fast. Just go along with the suspension of disbelief and enjoy the ride😊

Good story, dubious ending.
I waited a long time for this book and wasn't disappointed. My only problem was a plot point. The type of government selected near the end is a recipe for disaster in the future. I agree with the rebels (except for their use of violence) in their opinion of the addition of socialism. In every case, such political systems send in tyranny of one kind or another. It might take a generation or two but that much power leads to corruption.I know that it is only fiction (and can't expect otherwise from the way university students are indoctrated these days) but it happens to be a pet peeve of mine.Aside from that trifle 'Earthside' is a worthy sequel and I look forward to further volumes in the series.

Not my cup of tea
Uninspired. I had a feeling from book 1, but book 2 really nailed it. This is bobiverse 2.0 in post apocalyptical Stargate. Now, that might sound like a good thing, but I didn't enjoy it. Personally, due to reading bobiverse, this feels very much like a carbon copy. Straight down to an engineer named Bill blaring an airhorn PA at meetings. The skinny is this: politics, tons of them. Characters not learning their lessons and repeating the same or similar mistakes, and too many major characters. Characters that agree with each other in all forms, but still run around like a herd of cats.My personal take? I'm sick of using politics as a source of tension. I'm tired of characters not killing the bad guys, as they always come back for revenge, and I'm exhausted by the constant and unnecessary POV swaps. They don't add nearly enough to the story to justify them. The editing was on point, it was well written, decently easy to read, and overall: not hot garbage. But it wasn't for me.

Book number two of a two book science fiction apocalyptic series
Book number two of a two book science fiction apocalyptic series. I read the well printed and well bound POD (print on demand) trade paperback published by the Ethan Ellenberg Literary Agency in 2023. I really hope that there will be a book three in the series.Basically in the first book, a group of college students invent a trans-dimensional device and start exploring a parallel Earth that does not have humans on it. The author's description of the wandering Smilodons is unnerving. Then the Yellowstone Super Volcano blows up back on their home Earth. The first book pays very serious homage to _Wildside_ by Stephen Gould. It mentions the book in the story a couple of times. The second book starts a couple of months after the Yellowstone Super Volcano exploded, covering the entire planet with ash. Basically, the entire northern hemisphere of Earth is trashed with a severe population crash of over 90%. The southern hemisphere of Earth is very damaged too from all the volcano particles in the troposphere. Global cooling and crop damage mean starvation across the planet. The 400 people living in Rivendell on Outland have not had it easy but at least they have clean air, clean water, and plenty of food. The recent failed revolution was an eye opener as to what lengths people will go to get their way with several deaths and many injuries. Plus the roaming Mastodons, giant sloths, dire wolfs, and Smilodons make any trip outside the fence line dangerous. There are six trans-dimensional gates from human sized to truck sized and many people gate back to Earth daily to scavenge what they can from the Lincoln, Nebraska area. Many of the buildings in Lincoln have collapsed due to the weight of the ash and snow so the pickings are starting to get fairly slim. And the gate electronics need maintenance but those materials came from Omaha so an expedition is needed. And more refugees are found to move across a gate to Outland. And other Earths have found, Dinosaur Earth and Greenhouse Earth, both very dangerous places to go to.I really enjoy the author's writing style. Short chapters and continuously changing points of view. Also his books do not take themselves too seriously. My rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (I could be persuaded to go 5 stars)

Politics and opinions lead the way....
Enjoying following the survivors as they deal with new challenges. As the story continues, I see the correlation with reality today.

An excellent sequel.
Most sequels have a hard time carrying on a storyline after a great first book, but Earthside definitely delivered. I loved the realistic dialogue, especially during the council meeting with the Jerries. Outstanding! I really hope this series keeps going. Your characters are excellent as is the story progression. And your world building descriptions are amazing and seem to cover all the bases. Congratulations on an excellent series.
