My new hammer
Bought this as a replacement for and old, wooden handled hammer that was becoming an accident waiting to happen. It belonged to my father and I realised I had a sentimental attachment to a hammer, which felt understandable if a little weird! So finally I made the change and the replacement is excellent. Heavy enough to produce a good force, well balanced in my hand and comfortable to hold. It was a good price, and if it lasts as long as the old one it will have been a positive bargain. I would recommend this hammer to anyone looking for a home / DIY tool.

NICE hammer: good grip and practical
I use my hammer for mutilple things including; dismantling wooden palletts for converting into firewood kindling. The Claw works well for removing nails with mutilple head sizes, in addition to being used to split joints apart. The hammer head is made of tougthened steel and hammers nails into wood easily with little scratching or over side of wear and tear (no indentations present). I have not used the nail grip function as yet perferring to hold the nails by hand. The ease of use and tight grip control reduce teh likelyhood of missing and hitting your hand instead!.The lower handle is rubberised giving excellant grip and no slippage/rotation when in use. I am sure this tool will last for years of use if stored correctly (dry environment). Generally of a good quality construction and design which I have come to expect from this particular range of tools.

Good hammer
I left my trusty 40-year old stanley on a fence post in my field after I'd fixed some rails back on and someone nicked it when they walked the footpath. I bought this and I think it's even better. Same shape, same whack, but slightly lighter - and slightly shorter, so it actually fits into my tool box, unlike the old one. A good buy. I hope the thief hammers their thumb.

hammer
An excellent hammer. Nicely weighted, not too heavy, well balanced. Handle is grippy. The anti vibe thing is nonsense, you hit something hard and you feel it. The claw part is pretty good too. Been using this as a general purpose diy hammer and it is very good for the money.

It may be heavier than you think.
It is comfortable to hold with a well shaped shaft, so you shouldn't accidentally lose your grip. Vibration does seem to be very slightly reduced. The hammer it is replacing was pretty good at that though. I THINK that is also a 'Stanley' but all identification marks have long since worn away. I have had that old one 44 years so it is time to retire it. The striking face is slightly convex, just as it should be. The diameter is far larger than I am used to though. It is almost twice the area of my old Stanley hammer. I can't see any advantage in having such a large diameter striking face. It will however be a disadvantage if you strike near the edge as that will cause the hammer to try to rotate in your hand. Also, spreading the weight out rather than concentrating it in the head reduces the rotational inertia slightly, again making it more prone to rotation. I doubt it will be a disadvantage very often. In case anyone was wondering, this 16 oz hammer actually weighs 24.75 oz. It is almost exactly 16 oz forward of the balance point which is roughly 2.75" from the centre of the striking face. The 2.75" end of the shaft therefore acts as part of the effective weight. The handling/balance in use is just right, fortuitously nearly identical to my 44 year old one. Memo to self: Update this review in 44 year's time.
