Battery for radio unit.
Does just what it says on the tin its a battery and its rechargeable. It is a bit fiddly to get the plug in but other than that its ok. The only problem with the battery is if the mains power fails it does not take over, but if you unplug the mains charger it then is switched in and the radio etc works I was assumed it was battery backup when the power failed as I was going to use it in the bedroom as both a radio and an alarm clock. I will give it a try by switching off the mains power for ten minutes and then turning the power back on to see if it forgets its alarm setting. But it is a good battery power if you want to be outside but will have to wait for warmer weather to try it.

Works perfectly with Pure Evoke H3 DAB radio!
Very happy with this Pure ChargePAK B1 - it fits perfectly in Pure Evoke H3. I'd seen some reviews that it can be very tricky to fit the ChargePAK connector into the radio, but it was fairly straightforward & fitted in first time with Evoke H3. Charged up the ChargePAK on receipt as instructed & it's working perfectly: it makes the Evoke 3 easily portable (mains lead/USB not needed once ChargePAK is charged up.) Happy to recommend this Pure B1 ChargePAK!!

Expensive but functional once installed
I bought this battery along with a new (my second) Pure Mini Series II radio. I have had the first radio for almost 4 years of trouble-free daily use. Two weeks ago I bought a cheap Goodman's Canvas radio for £19.00 but had to return it on the day of purchase because it would not work. So I decided to buy a second Pure radio. This battery costs more than the Goodman's radio! The Pure Radio plus battery costs over £70 so it is not cheap for a small radio. However once you get the battery into the radio and charged it has a long life for listening as a portable. In all the years I have had my other PURE radio I have never had a flat battery. That's because when I am listening to the radio as 'mains radio' the battery is recharging in the background. No hassle of pulling a battery or batteries out of the radio to put them into a charger. It works well. Apart from the cost of the battery my only quibble is that it is very fiddly to get it plugged into the radio. There is an instruction leaflet with the battery and a warning not to force it into position. However it really needs some sort of 'docking mechanism' which would guide the radio plug-in into the proper connecting point. There is none and it is hard to know whether you are pushing into the right place. Last night it took me more than half an hour just fiddling with it to get it to the correct spot - of course when the connector was properly aligned with the socket in the radio it slid down into place very easily with no need then to force. Finding that correct alignment however is a nightmare. Having said that, the good news is that I won't have to take the battery out or put it back in again as long as the radio keeps working and the battery problem should be a once in a lifetime exercise. For me its twice in a life time because I recall having the same problem with my other radio 4 years ago.

Excellent product
This is the updated version of the Pure battery pack, first available at the start of December 2007. I am using it with a Pure One radio. It is a package the same size as 6 C type batteries, with a short cable and connector at one end. You plug the connector into a mating connector inside the battery space at the back of the radio, then fit the battery pack into the battery space. This is easy to do. Once fitted, the radio operates with or without mains power being connected. Whenever power is connected, the battery pack charges up and the radio operates from mains power. The instructions recommend a 24 hour charge initially, which I did though the indicator suggested it was fully charged long before that. In use I found it lasted for about 20 hours before the radio died. The indicator sits at 4 bars for most of this time then drops off quickly. From the drained state it took about 10 hours to charge again. However, I find it easier to keep the charger at my bedside and plug the radio in each night, so it does not normally fully discharge. This way, it is fully charged by morning and can be used anywhere in the house during the day for as long as needed, without running out of power.

very pleased with the battery pack
If you plan on moving the radio about at all - the battery pack is a necessity, since unplugging and moving the radio without the battery pack results in resetting the station. If you are listening to a podcast or listen again program - the program will restart and you'll have to listen to it again from the beginning. The battery pack is expensive and does not last for 24 hours, as claimed. Mine was dead after 4 hours, but this is long enough for my purposes. Rechargeable - so no need to replace batteries, either.

An expensive way to make a portable radio portable
Works ok. On the plus side: it arrives with some charge so you can check it functions but takes a full 24 hours for first charge and it seems to hold charge ok, I have only charged it the once since getting it about three weeks ago and I use the radio for about 20 mins a day in the bathroom. On the down side: it's a little annoying that the radio knows its using the chargepak and so the screen backlight goes out after a few seconds of switching it on. Also the display goes blank when on standby so you lose the function of a clock. Both these functions were available when I used the radio on the mains adapter! I know these are moans about the radio rather than the chargepak itself, but still. My biggest gripe is that this little rechargeable battery pack is sooooo expensive...more than half the cost of the radio itself. I was tempted to buy a cheap copy model instead for much less but on prior experience they tend to last much less than the original so I went for the costly one. This makes the whole dab radio setup about £80 which to me is a lot for a small radio for the bathroom, especially as where we live we only get a few dab stations. I only went dab to future-proof myself for the day they terminate fm services, but the way Pure market their radios and the chargepaks makes them very pricey. I'm still not convinced this is particularly good value for money...but at least it works...sort of!
