A well structured, practical guide with a checklist approach
This book is very helpful! It provides a comprehensive overview of an end to end process for the design, creation and roll out of KPIs, report production and dashboard design. It includes lots of clear, simple checklists to prompt you with various considerations, including some that might otherwise be overlooked. The book is easy to follow with examples, tips and pitfalls clearly indicated throughout. Given the book includes guidance on the roll out of your KPIs, it also includes information that some people might consider "IT related", however this is not particularly detailed or technical and is included more to provide a non-IT reader with information regarding the wider implementation considerations. The book contains a link to additional resources that nicely supplement the book. I had no issues in downloading the full set which include templates and samples for your own use. At the start of the book, there is a specific section that states how the author defines a KPI, with the word "key" implying that it is really important and that KPI, metric and measure are used interchangeably in the book. In a world of overused acronyms, I found this an extremely helpful definition that framed the rest of the book nicely - It was actually reading that specific section on the KINDLE "look Inside" sample (on the Amazon website) that prompted me to purchase a copy. If in doubt, I would encourage others to do the same... Alternatively, if you're looking for a practical guide to help you create and implement KPIs in your organisation, you could just buy it!

A masterclass in practical KPI design!
KPI Checklists surprised me in the best of ways. The first surprise was the style. The writing style is conversational, clear and easy to understand. The author uses lots of example and analogies to break the concepts down into really clear explanations. One great analogy was equating lagging measures to ‘Looking through the rear windscreen’ of your car and leading measures as the ‘Front windscreen’. Put in these terms the value of leading measures when ‘Driving your business’ becomes obvious. The examples and anecdotes cover a wide range of industries and help keep it engaging and relevant. The second surprise is how much value you get for the modest price, not huge numbers of pages, but an approach that really takes you from strategy through to KPI design and implementation in a practical ‘how to’ style. It really is a master class in KPI and measure design.

Definition of KPI is, well, a bit embarrassing
A decent enough guide, but it lost a lot of credibility on page 7 due to the plain wrong definition of what a KPI actually is. The author does not have a clear grasp of the meaning of performance or the term key. Shocking really.

A great book to help you through the quagmire of how to go about setting up measures that are meaningful
An excellent walkthrough guide for pretty much anyone to create meaningful KPI’s. This book is written with a conversational style which is easy to follow and understand. There are plenty tips for the novice and seasoned professional alike with links to useful templates to get you started. The principles explained here are easily adapted to any business or industry. I like the inclusion of guidance for engagement with stakeholders by an author whom is clearly a seasoned professional in this area. If you are planning to read a few books in this area, read this one first. Well worth the small investment.

Terrific!
Three months ago, I started a contract with a new client. Within a week, I realised that I was in over my head. They were not disinterested in my expertise, but what they really wanted was a process improvement specialist. I had to think fast, and learn fast. Thank goodness for Google! I found my way to Squawkpoint.com, and from there to MadeToMeasureKPIs.com. I quickly deduced that Bernie knew what I needed to learn. So buying the KPI Checklist book was a no-brainer. I was able to quickly find my way to the bits that were most relevant, and implement it immediately. I've gone on to buy his Blink Reporting ebook on dashboard creation as well. It's early days yet, but initial reaction from my client suggests that my investment has more than paid for itself! Thanks Bernie!

Great templates and guidelines
An excellent book that is practical and, while I've done a lot of work on the BSC and objectives\KPIs, I learnt from it. Has some good templates and guides and the shortlisting technique of importance and availability matrix, is a great tool. No matter how much you know about objectives and KPIs, you will get some good advice from this book.

A book on KPI's will never be a page turner but...
Despite that fact Bernie does a very good job of bringing the subject to life. It is a no nonsense guide to setting up and refining the KPI's that your business uses, written with genuine enthusiasm and humour. Bernie relies heavily on the use of checklists which makes the book much more user friendly than I expected As well as tips on how to define which metrics you need it also discusses how to best display them. If you produce management information for a living this book will help you fix a host of the frustrations you face. I nearly gave it 5 stars, but anybody who gives a book on MI 5 stars needs to get out more.

This book s different to the seminal works by Spitzer and also Parmenter who both build relevant strategic approaches to CSFs, KPIs and KRIs. This work goes further in that it is pragmatic and practical as it builds out practice and processes. The links to the checklists and templates deliver excellent value
