WD4002FYYZ 4 TB 3.5-Inch Hard Drive - Gold

Best hard drive on the market - but worth it if you need longevity and ultiimate reliability. This is the finest drive in the Western Digital Collection, faster than the black, more longevity than the red. Its the pinnacle of HDD technology.

We bought two of these Western Digital WD4002FYYZ 4 TB 3.5-Inch Hard Drives, to populate a NAS system. For those people who may be unclear about a NAS, it is a network-attached storage device, which holds one or more hard disks and connects into your network, giving other devices access to the stored content. This Western Digital WD4002FYYZ 4 TB 3.5-Inch Hard Drive – Gold, is well suited to be used in NAS devise. This drive, in particular, has a storage capacity of 4TB and has a substantial 128MB Cache. The accompanying bumf states “to make sure all of this data is kept safe the GOLD HDD’s are equipped with enhanced RAFF Technology which monitors the drive and corrects both linear and rotational vibration in real time, this along with the Multi-axis shock sensor and StableTrac Technology gives you peace of mind to know your data is safe”. In operation, the drive noise is better than OK and has a rotation speed of 7200 rpm. I must confess I am a western digital user when it comes to getting hard drives, or should I say populating a new NAS system. It is early days yet - nonetheless, I am happy with the Western Digital WD4002FYYZ 4 TB 3.5-Inch Hard Drive so far. I shall update if there any issues, hence my four-star rating.

+ Good price (per gb) + Reasonable performance + Good reliability (so far) I always buy Western Digital, I've never had one of their drives fail on me (yet). So I'll quite happily keep buying them! Why go for any of the green/blue/black/red series ones when you can have a gold series. Do it.

This is a datacentre hard drive and with light use would expect at lest ten years use. I have had 8 WD 1TB Desktop SATA Green drives running as raid 6 for 8 years then they were used in other units as non raided drives. As server upgraded in 2011 to 16 2 TB drives. But only time can tell you if you made the right choice.

Arrived quickly. Same reliability as RED PRO but with peace of mind support and warranty. Faster than normal WD REDs and good in NAS of 12 bays.

Took quite a while to get here and then arrived broken out of the box. Tried it in my NAS and the drive wasn't recognised at all - there were some faint clicking noises similar to those you get from a dropped head. Spent a great deal of time on the phone with Synology before coming to the conclusion that the drive must have been DoA. I do have one of these drives in the NAS already which has been fine for 2 years but suspect that the problem with this one might have had something to do with the minimal packaging - no padding or protection other than a thin foil condensation bag and the usual cardboard surround. I would suggest that this is not really good enough for sensitive electrical items. Returned to Amazon without any quibble but rather than a refund, I did need a drive and they were not able to replace only suggest that I buy elsewhere. Not really up to the standard you expect from Amazon.

True test will be longevity. performing as expected so far.

Primero me enviaron uno pero estaba dañado, el embalaje era una simple caja y una capa de plástico con burbujitas. No me extraña que se hubiese roto. El PC no me lo reconocía y hacía ruidos raros tipo cra-cra-crac cra-cra-crac, luego cuando lo reconoció, lo formateé y al pasarle el scandisk (tardó casi dos días!) estaba lleno de sectores defectuosos. Lo devolví, en teoría tenía que pasar alguien a buscarlo pero aquí no vino ni Dios. Así que lo envié directamente yo, porque si pasa un mes según Amazon, te toca pagarlo. Pedí que me lo reemplazaran y esta vez vino con el mismo embalaje cutre, pero con un papel arrugado que en teoría era para que no se moviese el disco dentro de la caja. ¿Pero esta gente sabe lo que es un disco duro? ¿y que los transportistas son unos salvajes (y muy mal pagados)? ¿y saben lo delicado que es un disco duro que con un golpecito se rompen? En fin... El que vino de reemplazo, va genial, no hace ruido, tiene 10TB y puedo meter de todo, eso si, es bastante lento, pero me da igual porque lo necesito más bien para hacer copias backup de datos y fotos. La tasa media de transferencia es de 194 Mb/s (máx. 255MB/s y mínimo 113MB/s) con un tiempo de acceso a disco de 14 ms. Adjunto imagen de prueba. En fin, el disco WD Gold de 10TB es absolutamente genial (para mi). La compañía que me lo ha vendido lo ha hecho fatal porque no han usado un embalaje apropiado pero por otro lado, es la que ofrece este disco duro más barato que toda la competencia. Y Amazon esta vez se ha portado regular, porque en teoría tenían que venir a buscar el disco defectuoso y me hicieron perder mucho tiempo hasta conseguir definitivamente el disco y que todo estuviese resuelto. Ya se que la culpa no es de directamente de Amazon, pero espero que le hayan metido bronca tanto a los que envían productos delicados con envoltorios mediocres, como a los transportistas que no aparecen.

Ottimo! Sicuramente è una serie rinnovata dei RE per data center di cui ne possiedo già uno. Devo ammettere che questa nuova serie Gold scalda un po' di meno ed è meno rumorosa. Sotto carico lo si sente ma mai come il RE di precedente generazione. Riguardo alle prestazioni posso dire che anche qui è superiore sia in lettura che scrittura, scrivere file grandi da un hd che li legge copiandoli quindi su questo Gold, si guadagnano 15/20 MB/s, molto bene perché è pur sempre un disco meccanico e sempre a 7200 giri, non a 10k o 15k. Ne consiglio l'acquisto e confermo la bontà del pacco, una scatolina con all'interno ai due lati delle plastiche che lo sostengono sospeso al centro della scatola. Molto bene!

WDということで、HGSTを探していたのですが、最新のだったらHGSTのラベル違いか同等以上の製品のようでしたので、思い切って購入しました。 5年保証についてこのシリーズ専用の電話がるので、直接（国番号80番の電話番号）に電話したところ、日本国内で5年保証を受ける場合、並行輸入では受けれない点だけ、購入前の注意点を頂けました。 Amazonより安いケースでも、保証期間が記載されていないのでショップに電話したところ、お店の10ヶ月保証のみで代理店保証やメーカー保証は受けられないと明言されましたので、工房さんでの購入は諦めました。 さっそく取り付けてデータのコピーを開始したところ、三年前に購入した初期のHGST 4TB 7200rpmですが、HGSTのリードの時間に比してWDのライト時間はその半分程でした。 タスクバーでのアクセス速度では190MB/s～260MB/sを行ったり来たりでした。 マザーボードがH77という古い世代でもこの速度ですので、サーバー用途でしたらSSDの上限が550MB/Sなのを考慮すると、個人用途では必要十分のようです。 ランダムアクセスが頻繁なシステム起動ディスクや、4Kビデオ編集の作業ドライブにでもしない限り、速度で困ることはなさそうです。SSDを10TB分用意する面倒よりも、こちらにしてよかったと思います。 また、Intel 750 (PCI-E SSD)とは当然ながら比べようもないのですが、サーバーのNICが1Gでしたら、帯域の100%時の速度が120MB/s程度なのでこのWD GOLDが足を引っ張ったりすることはなさそうです。 GOLDでも容量が10TBとそれ未満とでは性能や構造が異なるので、5年使う前提でしたらこの10TBモデルが後悔しないモデルに感じます。 結局、安いRAID対応モデルであっても、10TBに換算すると金額的な差が5年のスパンで考えると、けちる理由にはなってこなかったというのもあります。 この性能と容量が5年使えるのであれば、本当にいい買い物でした。
