Fixed my Fender Stratocaster!
Since I purchased my Fender Stratocaster from new back in 2018, it's suffered a major tuning issue on the G string (When the string was bent to increase pitch, it would detune around a quarter tone and when diving the tremolo it'd reach normal tuning again). This obviously pointed to a snagging issue somewhere. I replaced (Deep breath); - Removed string trees - Bridge saddles with graphite saddles - String trees with graphite trees - Standard tuners replaced with locking/staggered tuners - Plastic nut replaced with bone nut (This was done at PMT Southend by a professional) And the issue STILL persisted. Unhappy with "professionals" being unable to solve the issue, eventually I decided to investigate and on researching how to properly replace the nut I found that the "Professionals" had filed my current nut way too deep with incorrect break angles for the strings. The initial issue was compounded by the fact that the nut was incorrectly installed. Now for the review of THIS product. It solved all my issues, I filed the nut down using sandpaper taped to the 1st fret of the neck and sanded this to the proper height, fitted the nut with a tiny bit of appropriate glue and ran through a full set up of the guitar. It sounds awesome, there are ZERO tuning issues and I'm enjoying playing again. So much so that I'm going to be replacing the nuts on my Dean Z, Dean Vendetta and my Fender CD60 with TUSQ nuts. Great sound, great stability and I didn't even need to file the string slots down at all. Awesome product.

THE BUSINESS!!!
I have lost count of how many TUSQ nuts I have installed into guitar / bass builds now. They are most important with guitars, where tremolo systems and string bends require all the contact points of a string to be as low-friction as possible, to maximise tuning stability. These nuts are easy to shape, with sandpaper or a metal file, and just require a couple of dabs of wood glue to hold them securely in place. In fact, that's a good tip: don't over-glue a nut. If you ever need to remove it, you have made life quite unnecessarily difficult! But the main tip is to buy these, because they are really great to build with, and will be a fine upgrade to your existing instrument.

The best!
Can’t recommend enough a massive improvement on standard nuts.

Very good, but If you have a guitar with a tremolo you need the TusqXL
It’s a direct replacement for the fenders! In my strat fit perfect, anyway I replaced this with a TusqXL because of the tremolo. It was my mistake buying the Tusq rather than the TusqXL. In my tele was perfect as well.

Better string spacing E to e
Put 62 reissue MIJ pickups in this second hand Affinity Strat years ago. Playing it more and realised string spacing was a bit tight for my fat fingers (Affinity made with narrower neck). This nut has made a huge difference both in tone, sustain on open notes and my slowly developing ability to play ancient riffs on it. Used the plastic nut I took out as a template for size. Easy to sand to size and fit. Playing it still feels it got enough space either side of Ee so all good. Doubt if these mods do much for value but keeping it so not bothered. However sounds like a much more expensive guitar.

Brilliant upgrade from plastic nuts
Had a Fender Mexican Strat which had tuning issues with the strings binding on the original nut. Had to lightly reduce the width and remove the tag with some wet and dry, taking it slowly as needed a snug fit. On putting new strings noted that the string binding had disappeared. I don’t use the trem much so was happy that this nut wasn’t the x variant. Great upgrade from the original and not too difficult to fit

This was great. Firstly, I got what I ordered. It was packaged, not loose from a bulk shipment. I opted for the regular Tusq not the XL (which does NOT stand for extra large, just sayin') Secondly, I'm not a pro. Or even close. I did this in about an hour in my kitchen! These Tusq nuts come with that tab on the bottom because sometimes the slot in the neck is flat. Only the top of the nut has the arc. If that's the case you leave the tab on and the nut is supported across the flat bottom. I had my old one so I knew I needed to sand off the tab. Sanding this nut was easy. Oh, and don't be fooled by the difference in length. My old one broke off at the sixth string slot so, yeah, its shorter than the replacement. I then sanded the back side a little to make it a tad thinner. I wanted it to fit snug but it was just a little too wide right out of the package. (I just laid the sand paper on the table and rubbed the nut around on it.) Then to lower it a little I laid the sandpaper on the neck of the guitar and went back and forth with the nut to match the arc of the neck. (I think its a 9.5" radius which is pretty much standard these days) The old one looked like it was tapered a little. Thinner on the high end, so I just over did the sanding ever so slightly on that half. I didn't sand it for length. It is a hair wider than the neck. I made the high "E" side flush with the guitar and it was fine for me. I also did not use any glue. The fit was nice and tight. It doesn't fall out when unstrung. I also thought it would be easier to shim if I discovered I had over sanded somewhere. I strung the guitar, played it for a while and am very pleased with the result. Again this was not an "upgrade" this was a necessary replacement of a broken piece. Any difference in sound could be from the new strings, I don't know, but I have no issues with the nut or the process of installing it. A little common sense- make sure you put the wide slots on the low end and the narrow ones on the high!- and being just a bit handy and this is really simple. Had the arc of the new one not matched the old (7.25 vs 9.5) then I would have returned it. I had a hard time finding out what my particular guitar's neck radius might be. Finally I just went for it and it turned out fine.
