Ring Solar Charger (2nd Generation) for Battery Doorbells - Video Doorbell 3, Video Doorbell 3 Plus, Video Doorbell 4, Battery Video Doorbell Plus, Battery Video Doorbell Pro

I bought this product in April for use in South West UK. I’ve been away for 8 months & it’s brilliant. You can view the charge left on the Ring app - it hasn’t ran out yet. Impressed it works this well in England. Without charging the battery should last 60 days - it’s been 7 months, it’s winter & the battery is at 80%+

Without this solar charger, a battery would last on average for about 25 days, with the power dropping from 100% to 30%. However, with this solar charger connected, it has been in excess of 30 days so far where the battery has not dropped below 80% which is very good! The charger is West facing, so it gets a good amount of general daylight and sun and on a nice day. Will see how this fairs during the Winter months. I expect the charging to lessen. Apart from that, it's great piece of kit to have and I would recommend getting one, especially if your video doorbell is in place where there's a good spell of sunlight. **UPDATE** - JUL 2025 - Solar Charger has been great. With the hot weather of recent, have not had to change the battery for the last 100 days!

I am very disappointed with this product, it doesn't appear to do as described, It doesn't charge the battery even though its located in the sunniest area of the house, with the battery needing replacing every 2 weeks in the winter months.

Easy to install, keep the battery topped up but does not charge as much as expected. However this maybe a location and duration of sun it gets. Good value for money.

Brilliant dear subscription

Had this 2 years now. Worked great up till now, only had to charge the battery occasionally over the winter months when the sun was less. However the Solar panel sections now look like water has got into them, not very impressed as this should be built to withstand the weather, working intermittently so think I’ll have to replace it soon.

I absolutely love this Ring Solar Charger! I was constantly having to recharge my battery doorbell every few weeks, which became a bit of a hassle. Since adding the solar charger (2nd generation), I haven’t had to worry about the battery at all. It keeps the doorbell topped up even on cloudy days, and installation was super simple—just a few screws and it was good to go. It looks sleek and fits perfectly with the doorbell design. I also appreciate that it doesn’t add much bulk. It's been a few months now and the battery percentage hasn’t dropped below 90%. If you want a low-maintenance solution for keeping your Ring doorbell charged, this is it. Highly recommended!

The design and quality of the build leave nothing to be desired. It's really easy to fit, especially if you already have the Doorbell fitted as it uses the original holes in the wall. You really can't expect too much from this though. The solar panels surrounding the Doorbell are very small. It really requires placing in the optimum sunny position to be really appreciated. Admittedly, mine is east facing, under a small shelter and sees the sun for only a few hours in the morning. I really don't expect much from it, but just hoping it will extend battery charging frequency. It's been 4 days and the battery is hanging around 90% which is acceptable considering the use it has, my settings for video capture and it's position. Definitely 10/10 for product quality, but don't expect it to fully charge a battery in a few hours (something even the battery charger won't do).

Ho acquistato questo caricatore solare per il mio videocitofono a batterie di seconda generazione e ne sono rimasto estremamente soddisfatto. L’installazione è stata semplicissima, con istruzioni chiare e tutti gli accessori inclusi. Una volta montato, ha iniziato subito a caricare il dispositivo, anche con luce solare indiretta. La qualità dei materiali è ottima: resistente alle intemperie e ben costruito, perfetto per un uso esterno. Da quando l'ho installato, non ho più dovuto ricaricare manualmente il videocitofono: resta sempre operativo, giorno e notte. È un accessorio indispensabile per chi cerca comodità e autonomia energetica. Consigliatissimo!

Funktioniert bislang sehr zuverlässig. Seitdem ist kein "manuelles" Aufladen des Akkus mehr erforderlich. Die Montage war sehr einfach und schnell.

I read the negative reviews before buying and decided that there were enough counterpoints to decide that the people having problems were having issues with what they have done, not with the charger. Like all solar panels, this is a trickle charger. It will generally only trickle power in slowly. However, having direct sun access is crucial because... well, its a solar panel. The sun tops the houses across the street from me early in the morning and climbs up above the edge of my roof above the door about four hours later. With that limited amount of direct sun, my Battery Doorbell Pro's battery will add about 20% charge per day thanks to this panel. Some Ring doorbells use 'optimized charging' where the cell is supposed to only charge up to a max of 80%. This 80% limit can be difficult to trigger for reasons beyond the scope of this review, but I found that on the BD Pro, if the cell is already fully charged prior to the solar charger's installation, the solar panel will do absolutely nothing until the battery gets down to about 70%. Only then will the solar charger start charging. When it does, it charges up to only 80% (stopping at 81%, actually). From there, with the sun I get, the solar charger will maintain between 70 and 80% battery charge indefinitely. I have the DBPro set to take snapshots every three minutes and do everything else that eats extra battery power. The direct sun access I get lets me do that. If your direct sun is less, you will have to adjust your settings to eat less power, or get used to the solar panel just extending battery life rather than making it never-ending. The exception to the above is the initial charge of the battery. When I installed my solar charger, I only had about a 38% charge on the battery. The solar charger added 20% per day until I was up to 100%... and then it seemingly did nothing for days until the battery slowly dipped down to 70%. Then it magically started up again into the cycle I describe above. Here again if you have limited sun access, you might not see this kind of clear result and it may look like the charger isn't doing anything.

Solar charger doesn't charge as well as advertised even though we live in the UAE. Summer seems to keep the battery topped up but in the winter where there is stilll reasonable sunlight it is useless.

Excellent quality product, shame it wasn’t compatible with my Ring doorbell!
