Enjoy the first 3 hilarious Asterix stories in this special collector's edition. Follow Asterix, Obelix, and friends as they defend their village from Roman legions. Review: Asterix cannot fail to enchant any child. - I have an 8 year old son and a 4 year old daughter. I have read them and given them many books of many types over the years. Their favourite was always the encyclopaedia - they would even fight over it. Then I bought them Asterix. Wow. They have had this as their favourite book ever since Christmas. They never go a day without reading it and it is always begged for at bed time. They LOVE Asterix. I'm quite chuffed as I loved it too as a kid. Review: Brilliant! - Having been an avid Asterix fan as a child, I felt it time to introduce my daughter to the wonderful world of ancient Gaul. My brother had owned the whole collection as a child & passed them on to my older son, who was far too young to appreciate them at the time (hence waiting until my daughter was 14) & ended up destroying them all! So I decided to start a new collection & as it worked out cheaper to but them in omnibus form, went for this. I told my son I was getting his sister these & he had a "mock" tantrum, so I've ended up buying 2 of them so he can start collecting them again aswell (he is 23 & working so he can pay or the rest himself!). I personally can't wait to read them all again & will probably end up buying them all just so I can read them!

Omnibus 1 - good value
I remember ready Asterix when I was younger and now my children get to read Asterix as well. This is three volumes of the classic comics and is good value for money.

I loved reading Asterix as a child
I loved reading Asterix as a child. I remember it making me laugh. My 8 yr old nephew enjoys history and is an avid reader so I brought him the first 3 books for Christmas. I knew he had never heard of Asterix and he didnt appear ovelry excited when he opened it. However I have been told he now can't put it down. It has become his go to bed time read. Apparently he was up reading till 10pm recently. A definate hit and im so glad I thought to introduce him to these wonderful adventures. Have just purchased the next 3 books for him.

It's Asterix what more is there to say?
I have loved Asterix since I was a little child, and these are a good introduction to his world for our grandkids. Good quality and at a not too bad a price.

These Gauls are crazy
Used to love reading these books at the local library and now I can read them whenever I like. Who doesn't love fight scenes with puns, jokes in latin and the eternal mystery of the purpose of Menhirs? The only drawback is that black characters are drawn in a slightly racist way, similar to very old Disney cartoons. All in all, a crackin read.

Brilliant
I bought this for my dyslexic son who also has a speech and language delay to encourage him to read. My little brother taught himself to read as a child with these stories, so I thought I give a go. It has been such a success. It would be too much to say that he is reading now but there is an interest that was not there before and that is half the battle. He has been 'reading' this one since January and has read his first book on his own for the first time in February. Apart from that, I just love Asterix and Obelix, always have :-). I can fully recommend this!

This was a great gift for my kids. They seem to enjoy it just as much as I did when I was their age. Highly recommended.

Asterix is a charming, humorous series that takes place in ancient Rome, and more specifically, Gaul, which is modern day France. The story is that the Romans under Julius Caesar have conquered all of Gaul except for one little village where there is a group of Gauls who have superhuman strength, thanks to a magic potion brewed by the village druid, Getafix. Absurdity and hilarity ensue when the Gauls encounter the Romans, who are positively terrified the Gauls will attack them at any time. The main character is Asterix, a shrewd, short little warrior from the village. Usually accompanied by his best friend Obelix, a loyal but dim-witted (just don't call him fat!) warrior who fell into the magic potion when he was a baby, thus having a permanent effect on him, Asterix and Obelix go on different adventures around Gaul and the Roman empire for a variety of reasons. The series has been translated into several languages and translates well into all of them. The strip is, first and foremost, a comic, with the expected slapstick humor that would appeal to younger readers. But the true genius of the comic is that there is a lot of historical humor in it as well. For anyone that has even a basic knowledge of Roman events, society and language, they will find the strip is so much deeper. From puns based on latin and every Roman having a name ending is -us, to references to historical events and cultures, the stories never disappoint. There is not really a clunker in the bunch, all of them usually having at least two or three laugh-out-loud, show your teeth jokes. It is truly clever and recommended for ages 7 on up to adult.
