Best bottle nipple ever!
My daughter was born with latching difficulties (aren't they all?) and I had milk production problems, so bottle feeding was something we launched into pretty early. But we still wanted her to be able to nurse. So when we put her on bottles, we started off with two First Years Breastflow bottles, and liked them well enough. She retained her ability to nurse, though she was often fussy at the breast. She became a somewhat lazy sucker. The Breastflow bottles mean she has to suck harder once in a while, but then the milk just drips into her mouth for a little bit. Also, our breast pump was a Medela, so it meant we were pumping into one set of bottles and then feeding from another. All in all it made for a lot of bottle cleaning, and still some difficulty nursing. Then I stumbled across the advertisement for the Medela Calma. It seemed like a solid idea, and I liked that there would be less stuff to clean, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm in the US, and the product isn't actually available anywhere here, so I had to order on Amazon.UK and pay heavy shipping and customs fees rather than just going to regular Amazon. But it's been SO WORTH IT!! Since getting the Calma, she's become a much better nurser!! It may have just been the timing (she hit 3 months right around when we bought these nipples), but since buying these, she's been much less fussy at the breast. And there's been less cleaning. And pleasantly, these nipples leak a LOT LESS than the First Years Breastflow bottle nipples. We do have some issues where she'll suck and fill the nipple tip with milk, then decide she doesn't want that bite so she'll turn away and get milk all over her face. But it doesn't happen THAT often, and to me it's worth it to have her nursing better and have so much less to clean. I also love that the Calma comes as a complete unit, with a top cover AND a base cover, so we can throw one in a diaper bag with a capped bottle of breastmilk and the whole thing stays clean until we're ready to use it. They're a bit spendy for just a nipple, but like I said, I've been so pleased that I consider it money well spent. I bought two to start and I'm thinking about buying one more.

Good spare teat
This teat is modelled on the breast and claims to be the closest to breastfeeding. It also claims to reduce colic (which teat doesn't?) Luckily our little one is an exclusively Medela Calma baby and she gets on very well with it. + BPA-free + You can see the squirts of milk coming out of the teat as it is see through plastic + One size fits all so you don't need to think about teat sizes when baby grows + Cleaning is a breeze as the teat falls apart into three pieces with not much nooks and crannies - The teat is long and is designed to stick into the back of baby's mouth. Can be quite unsettling at first - If your baby is a messy eater then don't expect this to make a difference as it can still be messy Also, one piece of advice I've heard many times is that every baby is different so although this teat gets lots of positive reviews there is still a chance your baby won't get on with it in which case you just have to try something else. It will be trial and error. I also heard (but haven't tested it myself) that Boots standard bottles can be used with this teat.

Great Product (not just for those breast feeding)
I bought several Medela Calma teats because my son was having problems latching and I wanted him to avoid nipple confusion. The teats only give your baby milk if they are creating a vacuum, i.e. sucking properly like they would on the breast. This means that the baby can use the same technique on the bottle as they do on the breast (and vice-versa). It is a good quality product; well made. Someone from my breastfeeding group complained that the clear part becomes cloudy but if you clean properly in spout it remains clear. The reason I say that this is good for those who are not breastfeeding is because the way the mechanism works the baby controls how much milk they get. I was using a mam bottle before this one, which was good but nowhere as near as good as this one. The mam bottle like every other bottle I know gives out a constant flow of milk, which means the milk dribbles down the baby's mouth a lot and the baby cannot pause. When I started using this teat there was a very noticeable difference in the amount of milk dripping down his face. He also seemed to need less time being burped at the end. I guess that's because the flow of milk was better as gulping milk down is one of the causes of wind. Also, because the baby regulates the flow of milk you don't need to buy a different teat for different ages so no need for slow, medium and fast flow teats. Another benefit of this teat is that if you knock the bottle over milk doesn't spill out (except maybe one drop that was left from the baby's last suck). I think this teat is well worth the money.

I bought this teat as I have medela bottles. However, my baby hates this teat, he did not want to suck it at all.

The kid seemed to like it but the third time he used it he started to choke. We tried a couple more times, but at the end we decided to try Suavinex Zero and never looked back. The assembly is also a bit complicate when you’re half asleep with a kid crying in the middle of the night.
