Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch External Hard Drive for PC, Xbox One & Xbox 360

I have been using an old 1TB drive for a few years now and felt it was time to upgrade. I could not believe how cheap this 2TB drive was and thought it must be cheaply made, I was very much mistaken. The drive is fantastic it comes with its own software on it but i never had to install anything, I simple plugged it in with the usb cable that came with it and boom it was straight there on my This PC page. I transferred over alot of material from the old TB and the speed it did it was great even tho my pc doesnt have usb 3 capability. I can only imagine how fast it would be at usb 3 speeds. Also the drive looks amazing, sleek and shiny black with a nice cube pattern on the top. The size is at least four times smaller than my old TB and this holds twice as much data. The usb cable isnt mega long which was no problem for me as i have the drive sitting on top of my tower so i have ample extra lead. The size makes it great for transporting and since it doesnt need to be charged as it gets its power from the PC you dont have to carry a plug charger around with you if you want to bring movies or data to another location. I have had no faults or any complaints with this product and maybe even buy a 4GB drive if I ever fill this one up. The drive also worked instantly didnt need time to charge up i just plugged it in and the blue light came on and i was good to go. All in all a great buy and at such a great price, well worth it

I bought this drive to try and help salvage my ailing iMac (which in itself is a rare thing). The internal drive has started to fail, and I needed to get stuff off quickly. I used this drive to actually run the Mac OS on, based on a 1.1TB time machine imagine that I had taken a few days before. I have to say, I am pretty impressed The drive itself comes well packaged in a neat box, with only the required amount of materials (no wastage here). Inside the packaging is the drive itself, which has a nice look and feel to it, and a proprietary USB cable that provides both power and data transfer in 1. Keep this safe, its an unusual cable so not sure how easy it would be to replace. I connected the drive, and set about formatting it to the right volume type to be a bootable MAC HD. Formatting was done quickly and I was away - able to install the OS onto the drive from a time machine backup, and have been running off it since. The drive itself is not silent, but neither is it noisy - you know its working by the blinking blue light on the top of the drive - but that's about it. I plan to velcro it to the back of my Mac so that its up and out of the way Size wise its about 25% bigger than a deck of cards, but also about 25% slimmer. The drive gets warm through use, but not hot and nothing to worry about. Read and Write speeds seem pretty good, and i am able to make use of nearly all of the 2TB of storage. I plan to use the drive for extra storage on my Xbox One once I have finished using it to run the Mac OS. Really pleased, and would recommend a good drive at a great price.

Brought it for my PS4 then transferred it to my PS5. I’ve had no issue with this product and is still working fine and still got space on it.

I have owned this for 8 months now, I have not had a single issue with it. My original Western Digital drive had a habit of corrupting when plugging it into a different PC. To the point where the data was not recoverable anymore. This however, there is no indication that the drive will fail soon, the read/write speeds are exactly as specified, and even under heavy load, I cannot hear it. Look ===== The drive looks amazing, there is no other way of putting it. I am not big on portable HDD's looking brilliant, to me they are just something that's functional. However this does look the part. I would have to say however, it is not as thin as the product image depicts, but it is in no way bulky. There are also no rubber feet on the underside, this was a concern of mine but after using it (on top of my desktop tower) there are no vibrations to be heard. Performance ===== Using USB 3.0, the drives performance is very good. It is obviously not as good as SATA drives, Thunderbolt, or USB Type C, but there is a lot more compatibility when using USB 3.0. In my test, I got 94MB/s write speed, when transferring a 5GB file. Convenience ===== The biggest selling point of this drive (to me) was that is was powered via USB. This means you do not have to bring a bulky plug with you, for whenever you would like to use the drive. You simply have to plug the USB cable into your PC/Laptop, and away you go. Also with most PC's, no specialist software is needed, you just plug it in, wait while the OS installs the required drivers, and then the HDD should appear in your drive list. Alternative Usage ===== As many before me have said, it is very easy to get this drive to work on PS4/Xbox One/Macs. Conclusion ===== If you're looking for a reliable, small and convenient portable HDD, then look no further. Very highly recommended!

This is the only sealed style backup USB drive I have bought so my reservations may be something it has in common with other similar drives The supplied cable is short and has a standard USB for connection to the computer but a non standard (crimped in the middle connector) which slots into the drive If the cable gets damaged then that looks like it will be more tricky getting a new cable Otherwise it seems a decent enough drive although you cant see what is inside because the case is fully sealed I looked at the price of a 2.5" sata drive as an alternative using a USB to Sata cable but that was a a little more expensive The plastic is hard and shiny but has the raised pattern to help with gripping the drive with hands but that may contribute to it skating about more on hard surfaces So the good points are the capacity and the price plus it's from a major manufacturer and it was very easy to register online (as soon as it was plugged in) and the not so good are as mentioned above

I had read on a couple of forums that this HDD is one of the most economical ways to upgrade space on the PS4. I purchased 2 of them, one to use in the PS4 and one for the backup and to load movies on for the car trips so this will be a review as well as a little step by step for those of you looking to use this unit for the same thing. DISCLAIMER: I have never opened a computer on purpose and am not trained in any way on how to do what I did, but it was super easy following the steps laid out by Sony. In order to use this drive for the PS4 backup I used my laptop to format the drive to FAT32. The default format is ntsf and will not work for the PS4 backup. Plus there is some install files that are not needed for this use. I then used this drive to back up the nearly 500GB of apps and player data following Sony's guide for this which is here: [...] It took about 3 hours using this drive because of the write speed. A solid state drive would have been faster and probably twice as expensive. Then I formatted the other drive keeping the ntsf format but ridding the drive of the unnecessary files. Removing the drive from the case is fairly simple using the smallest screw driver I had in my set from about a half inch away from a corner sliding it along the seam towards the corner until one of the clips pop. The lid then comes off easily under fingernail power. NOTE: this will void the warranty so make sure you have formatted and tested the drive prior to breaking the case seal. Be careful not to crack the case, we are going to use it later. The drive is held in the case by 4 rubber screw covers that keep it snug. Turn it over and with a gentle tap it falls loose. Take the covers off the screws and remove the screws. There is a foil cover protecting the usb adapter which you should remove carefully and set aside with the screws and rubber covers (I'll explain why in a bit). The adapter comes of easily with a little wiggle. Installing the drive is super easy thanks to Sony having the foresight to know 500GB just wouldn't be enough memory. Follow these simple directions to install the drive: [...] Make sure to download the reboot update file to a thumb drive prior to restarting your PS4. You will also need your PS4 controller cable to use the controller until the initialization is completed. DO NOT SIGN INTO PLAYSTATION NETWORK UNTIL YOU RESTORE YOUR PS4 FROM THE BACKUP DRIVE. It takes as much time to restore as it did to backup so be ready to do something else for a bit depending on how much data you have... oh wait, I have an idea, lets use the old PS4 drive to make another 500GB external drive! Put the drive back together using the removed USB adapter, screws, rubber covers, and aluminum sticker shield. DO NOT START THE FORMAT PROCESS UNTIL YOUR PS4 IS INITIALIZED, RESTORED, SIGNED INTO PSN AND YOU HAVE CHECKED FOR ALL OF YOUR DATA, APPS AND GAMES. YOU MAY REGRET NOT LISTENING TO THIS ADVICE IF THE DRIVE IS CORRUPTED. Unfortunately you are not able to initialize the PS4 drive the same way you can the other HDD. You have to manually delete each partition and format from Computer Management. I found the step by step on this here :[...] The hardest part was finding where to go to find the drive because the author of this post missed a step on how to get there. What I did was went to CONTROL PANEL> SYSTEM AND SECURITY> ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS> COMPUTER MANAGEMENT and found the drive the same way you would on file explorer. The rest of the instructions are fairly straight forward. Now having used the PS4 for about a week I can tell you that it works great, has plenty of storage room, and is quiet during operation. I did a lot of research on solid state drives prior to picking this drive instead because for me the speed gained was not worth the extra money watching the side by side reviews like this one : [...] I feel like I made the best choice for my budget, experience, and needs. I have since also installed the second drive into the other PS4 we have and used the 500GB drive I made from the first PS4 upgrade for the backup.
