Excellent Downrigger for my kayak
My original Scotty down rigger was the Lake Troll model.I wanted a better/heavier duty, manual down rigger that also had a line counter. After some research, I settled on this Model 1050 due to the incredible line release lever/brake feature.I mounted this on my Hobie Pro Angler-14 and could not be happier with the overall operation. It cost twice as much as the Lake Troll, but IMO it delivers 4 times the performance.I did not use the rod holder that came mounted on the arm, but my Scotty Power lock....as it was easier for me to reach my rod on the Power Lock rod holder. With the lever line release/ automatic brake feature, I can easily release the down rigger and my fishing line, while seeing the cable counter indicate the depth of my lead weight.Recovering the lead weight is simple as the cable-drum and handle is plenty large enough to deal with my 4 pound weight. The down rigger is really of high quality as I have found with other Scotty products.

Great value for the money.
Easy to install and easy to use. I use 8lb ball at 60-70ft depth on my local lake they have really helped. Easy to let line out and easy to retrieve. Not as nice as electrics and do take work but there manual so you have to accept that from the start. Easy to adjust and great rod holder, I would purchase again without a doubt. Make sure to set yourself up for success by getting all the accessories needed! Lanyard to cable is very important so your not leaning over the side of your boat. The base mount only installs one direction make sure you can get your unit into and out of its holder, its not a perfect square that will accept it in any position. A/B only. Great unit used 2 seasons now, get one and enjoy.

Excellent Downrigger
I made a 1/2" plywood aft deck for my newly acquired SeaEagle 9 ft.1 man pontoon fishing boat. This is the perfect downrigger for this application. Easy to mount and can easily use a 6 lb. ball. I have used it several times and know the exact depth of my bait. At 1.2 mph trolling for kokes, the wire is almost perpendicular to the water. It is not electric and is not a fast retriever but for my needs it is perfect and sturdy enough. With the quick disconnect it can be removed and stored in seconds. Good buy and good fishing.

Fantastic quality and functionality!
Decided to give Scotty a shot after reading reviews and I am so glad I did! I cannot believe the build quality of the 1050. Simple to use with the brake - real smooth deployment. Accurate depth gauge. I will definitely grab a second one for the other side of the boat. Highly recommend.

Very small downriggers, one arrived broken
I bought a pair of these downriggers, because I don't do a lot of trolling but wanted something easy to mount and use when I do pull spooons for salmon. These are actually too light for my application. 8lb downrigger ball is the absilute maximum you should be pulling around with these little downriggers. I'm also not a fan of the rodholder where it's mounted. They do work as they should. I'm able to troll 8lb ball with spoons or flasher and fly combos down to 115ft with no issues at 3mph.One of the pair I received was broken. The lid over the spool is held on by weak little plastic fingers that were broken. I fixed them... permanently. If anything breaks in the future I'll contact Scotty and get warranty parts.

It works well
It works well and is fairly easy to operate. The unit itself is sturdy. Ball retrieval is not bad with a 5 - 8 lb ball. It would be nice if the line counter was easier to see. You almost have to be standing over the unit to see it. It mounted easily to my old aluminum boat using a Scotty #1021 Portable Bracket. I also recommend using a Scotty #3025 Downrigger Weight Retriever. The bad about the unit is the rod holder. It doesn't work well with my trolling rods. Having the rod hanging over the side of the boat is not ideal on my 12ft aluminum. I use separate rod holders so that the rods and downriggers don't interfere with each other. Also so I don't have to reach over the side of the boat to take up tension or grab the rod. While the basic downrigger is a good deal, expect to spend almost as much for mounting brackets and other miscellaneous accessories.

Works great
Does everything it's supposed to with no bells and whistles. Well built, should last a long time.
