desertcart.com: Fray Bentos Minced Beef & Onion Pie (425g) - Pack of 2 : Grocery & Gourmet Food Review: Delicious Pies, shame about the delivery! - These are pies that we grew up with in England. They come in a tin, you take the lid off with an opener and put in the oven. The top puffs up like flaky pastry, about 3 inches, and underneath is a soft pasty, some think it is soggy, but it is not, it is what makes a Fray Bentos pie a Fray Bentos pie. Then there is a rich beefy gravy, now this is England, we do not eat as much as here in the USA, so there is little meat filling, so do not expect large chunks like in a Marie Colanders. But it is not fake chewy meat either and they are much nicer, at least I think so. And in England they cost less than $5 so that is why they have little meat in them. Now desertcart please look at the pictures, DO NOT SEND THEM IN A PAPER BAG!! I received a box of gloves in a huge box with bubble wrap and these came in a bag??? Buy them and see, do them with chips aka French fries, and bread and butter, and if you dare,... a pickled onion! Review: A taste like no other! - I have been wanting these for a long time. It definitly was worth the effort to locate someone who could get them to me. Fantastic flavour and the crust rose higher than I expected. So glad I can get them again!!!

Tasty convenient option
It was tastier than I expected although I would have preferred chunkier meat than minced, but the pastry was outstanding. Mine came out beautifully puffed, crispy, and golden and honestly a lot better than the ones on the YouTube reviews I had seen. I think the secret is a slightly higher cooking temperature, as I used 395° F for the full 30 minutes.

These are awful, but convenient...(Make sure you have lots of tomato sauce around)
They truly are awful pies, but, as I was born and raised in the UK, I sometimes like to take a stroll down memory lane and dream of real pies...

Good grub
Just as I remember, perfect on a cold night with chips

Not as good as I remember
I came to US more than 25 years ago, but used to love these in Britain in the 80's. In a fit of nostalgia I bought a few of these, and honestly, like most things they just aren't as good as they used to be. The can seems much smaller. These used to serve two people, but now only one. The puff pastry tastes good and really puffs up as these things are famous for. There is not enough filling anymore though, and appeared to be "separated" after cooking. Definitely not the same taste.

Just as delicious as I remember.
I have not had a Fray Bentos pie in 50 years, I was very pleasantly surprised. Amazing pastry and a nice savoury filling. Americans may not like them but then its a Brit thing.

Bloody disgusting!
Just yuck. I was quite excited to try them, but I’m throwing away the second pie and giving my dog 3/4 of the first. I mean - I get some of the positive reviews if you have some weird childhood nostalgia for these things, but they’re objectively terrible. Like low end, frozen pizza or 7-11’s wings crappy. The crust is very meh, but way better than the nearly meatless mush they put inside. Rather like I would expect WWII army food to taste like. I’ve had infinitely better Aussie meat pies in the states (although finding them is rather challenging). Don’t waste your money on these unless you’re buying them to remind you of your lost youth when times were simpler before your palate matured to appreciate the finer foods.
