Most of my childhood I was made to hate my curly hair that cascaded down my back and made me look like Diana Ross. Each Sunday after church my hair was washed, saturated in Johnson and Johnson's No Tear Detangler [LIARS! I can still feel the comb pulls as I type this 50 years later!!!] blow dried for an hour while being tugged and combed, then braided in Laura Ingalls pigtails. When it was all over my eyes were swollen nearly shut from crying, my nose a stuffy mess and my throat raw from yelps and mouth breathing. I'd get a dose of 8 baby aspirin or more depending on my age and sent to bed to sleep off my migraine before dinner. Often I would sleep through to wake for school the next morning. This was LONG before Kelly Foreman dreamed she could climb out of her crib and crawl to the Fisher Price Little People in her toy box and decades before Mop Top Hair Custard was whipped into existence. But thankfully she fulfilled her curly hair science project and Mop Top Hair Custard is here to save the curls of the world. It is a pretty pricey item, but it does work on just about all hair types. I say all hair types because I have curly kinks on the top and soft fine straighter hair underneath and this works to manage all my hair. My routine: I wash and condition with Tresemme Moisture Rich formula then comb any tangles out in the shower. I towel dry, comb again then rub in a few globs of Mop Top Hair Custard all over and comb again. No tears, no migraine, no need to nap. I leave it to air dry which takes hours and hours unless I'm outside in the sun (God's way of saying I NEED to manifest living in a beach house...). So if I need to I can blow dry on high heat with the finger diffuser attachment to speed things up. The results is an adorable Shirley Temple mop top with glossy defined curls no frizz. My hair is light and bouncy and it doesn't feel greasy or creamy. I can go out in a rainy mist with just my umbrella and no pouf effect. I can scrunchy it into a bun or pony tail that is curly, sporty and fun. If I want to go for something like a Bridgerton updo look all I have to do is gather what I want to and pin it with combs, clips, pins or... wait for it... add a tiara and I am ready to meet The Ton. Heck add some Olay eye cream and Hydration serum then top it off with Drew Barrymore's Afterglow on the cheeks and there would be whispers of "Diamond" potential :P Humor aside this product really does work like it says it does. The world has changed and kids today are much kinder and forgiving of differences then back in the day (unless they have parents who can only teach the pain they know) but I still hear kids making fun of curly hair or glasses or different shades of skin color. If you have a cute curly mop top in your life, help them embrace what the Good Lord gave them and get this hair product. A little does go a long way.

I have been using this curly hair custard for years, and it is the absolute best for keeping frizz away and my curls defined. It provides a soft, touchable hold without feeling heavy or sticky. The product works great on my wavy to curly hair, and a little goes a long way. For best results, I apply it to very wet hair and then scrunch out the light cast once it is dry, which leaves my curls super soft and bouncy. It plays well with my other leave-in products, and the pleasant citrus scent is lovely during application but fades quickly. If you want defined, frizz-free curls that still have movement, this is the one to get. It’s a longtime favorite for a reason.

What I'm working with: top of the shoulder length, 2c/3a, 35% grey, very thick but fine hair. I am a new user and still adjusting how much product to achieve the look and feel I want when it dries. Initially I applied too little and didn't get the cast I wanted BUT surprisingly my hair maintained a wave/curl pattern just not with the frizz control I needed. Applied more the second time and got the cast but hair texture didn't feel right. So I'm still playing with how much is enough to get the look and feel I'm hoping for. Will say the small tub appears like it will last awhile, love the scent.

I bought this product hoping it would be everything I was looking for and it was!!!! I am so thrilled with all of the Moptop products. I am new to the brand, but I have been using the shampoo/ conditioner and about 3 different products and I love them all. My hair has never been smoother, shinier and no frizz. Thank you Moptop!!!!

Pros: Smells great, leaves hair VERY soft with decent curl pattern. Cons: Flakes a LOT. When you shake out the cast there are fine, powder-like flakes everywhere. Needs gel on top if you want a strong hold.

So I have fine, thick hair that I have been heat styling, dyeing and flat-ironing for years. I had an inkling that I might have wavy hair after watching some Youtubers and noticing that my hair is extremely frizzy no matter how much hydration/protein/clarifying it has, unless I fry it and hair spray it into submission. It also forms wave clumps in the shower and after every shower I have big S waves that eventually frizz up. I do have some S waves that last with no product, with air-drying. Last hair appointment, since my hair is getting longer, my stylist had to cut longer bangs due to heat breakage in the front of my hair from my flat iron. I decided that since my hair is frizzy all the time, has some S waves if I let it air dry without any product, that I might have wavy hair. So after much research I purchased Mop Top’s hair custard. After shampooing and deep conditioning with my regular products, I left my hair pretty wet and scrunched some of this product through my hair standing upright and then with my hair upside down. Six hours later, I still have some frizz but my waves are peeking out all over my head, even in damaged areas. I actually can see my wave pattern after one use! Due to years of destroying my hair, one use helped for me to see I definitely have wavy hair. It also gave me a lot of volume. I have read that it will take some time for my hair to adjust to a wavy routine and I still need to get some other wavy-friendly products. But having this product after the shower makes me feel like I can air dry my hair now, and smooth frizzies with some light oil or some of this product. Tomorrow I plan on re-wetting my hair and re-scrunching more product in. Update: so at the end of the day, my hair is falling flatter and my wave pattern isn’t as organized. But I still have some waves and the product left my hair soft. I feel that if I continue to use this product it will help me use heat less as my hair is not as frizzy even after one use. So this is a huge win for me and allowed me to see my wavy hair for several hours after one use. I am very hopeful that this is going to help me embrace my wave pattern and use heat less.

Shockingly, very pleased! Like I’m ready to cancel my subscription to Prose because this works so well and way more affordable . I also like how it doesn’t make my hair crunchy and I use way less than I would normally use and get a wonderful texture that’s not at all dry on the ends. If applied to wet hair I get zero white flakes like someone else mentioned in a review . My only complaint is that it doesn’t control my frizz on the top of my head as well as the Prose sculpting gel. …so my search for that continues.

I'm not an avid reviewer....I should be better with it, but oh well...if it's important, I will 100% review it to help folks out with deciding....so...I literally Have HORSE (like) HAIR...no joke, ladies...I am every beauticians NIGHTMARE....its long, it's naturally curly, and to top it off, they are...well, cork screw shaped.... BEAUTIFUL, but with that comes the headache of what products to use...some are heavy and weigh my cork screws down, some are 2 light and a waste of money. I've been trying just about anything...from $ to $$$...I even mix and match things to keep those curls in shape, bouncy, and not kinked up, frizzy, or looking like a hot mess, and not have to use a 1/2 can of "big sexy hair" haispray, and my head feels like it's been dipped in cement....only vinegar gets that stuff out, as you curly divas know, and surely feel my 🫤 It was Prime Day, and this popped up as I was digging for something new to try...read reviews...ok, why not....$15 , what's there to loose ? Ladies...it arrived today, and naturally I had to try it immediately ! Being that my hair is long, the dime size recommended qty to use, is of no use to me, and made me laugh....I need gallon sized jugs of eveything for my Mane 🤭 I applied to towel dried hair, and about 7 dimes sizes run through I felt I was adequately covered from root to tip. Now on to the blow drying.....I always use a diffuser, and it's head down @ss up while drying my hair.....I let the diffuser do its job, not crunching the curls, just drying....bc, it is true, curls r friends, they stick together....and once I raised my head, and worked on sides and back of head, I peeped in the mirror.....OMG🤯....my curls...they look alive...they r not dragged down, and...wow...hair is shiny. Not greasy at all. It smells AWESOME...and looks even better !! So, to those of you whom suffer like me with the quest for ONE thing to apply to hair to style--🤔 THIS IS IT !! Once it dried, I immediately went on here, ordered another one, and put it on auto delivery every 3 weeks, to not run out -EVER....this is like magic in a jar, amd though 1 jar will last me only 2 or maybe 3 weeks, it's ok, and worth every penny !! I am so happy with the results, it's ridiculous 🤗🥰 and my curls look super sexy and alive now....Whooo-hooo !! There's nothing better than finding something that works...and this is IT !!
