Q: Can it be used with solar panel? what volt/amp etc... and anything else i need to know? can i leave batteries in while using solar panel too?

No solar panels but it can be plugged into the mains and you can leave the batteries in for the memory etc. It is 12volts.

Q: I've just got one of these. I'm struggling to film foxes and badgers. How high should I be setting up the camera from the ground.

I have two of these both set in a forest on my farm, strapped to a tree around 25” from the ground, but placed a short stick behind the upper part of the camera so that it angles down. I have also camouflages (keeping sensors cleared) with branches, moss, leaves etc! My sensitivity is medium and side sensors are on. I place a handful of dog biscuits out and I’ve filmed mink, pine marten, foxes, red deer, badgers and a couple of animals I’ve yet to identify. Operating hours set On: 00:01, and Off: 23:59 (so just two minutes that I miss). Settings are to capture images (5 pics) and video (30sec) - only thing I’m a tad disappointed in is the nighttime picture quality, it’s quite blurred even on animals that are barely moving. Video quality is exceptional though.

Q: Why are some videos in colour at night but most in black and white?

Cameras that are rated for day and night use can record colour pictures and video pictures in strong daylight, but at night under low-intensity lighting conditions the camera illuminates the scene with infra-red LEDs. LED’s can't distinguish colours under infra-red light. So even a colour CCTV camera will get black-and-white pictures when lighting is either poor or at night. Hope this helps.

Q: Set to motion detector with side lenses on. But only starts recording moving subject when immediately in front of camera. Reasons?

The whole purpose of the side detectors is to bring the camera out of low-power 'standy-by' to minimise the delay, but to prevent lots of 'blank' shots, the camera doesn't start recording until the central sensor is triggered. As Bazza says, "Check your delay settings"; Detection Delay (minimum inter-recording interval) is often set to something like 10 seconds. If there's still movement in front of the camera, why would you want recording to stop for a period of time?
