Update: KAMaster has updated their product description, so you know how to ensure it will fit your cast iron grate. Mine was likely aftermarket and the lifter did not fit between the ribs. If you don't have one of those listed grates, now you know to measure the width between ribs for fit. 5 stars for prompt attention and a good product! Short version: Yes, I would recommend this grate lifter, with a caveat. It is well-made and sturdy. However, be certain that you have one of the grates listed or that the openings of your grates are at least 3/8" wide. The product descriptions says "This grate tool fit for most heavy-duty cast iron grate, like Green Grill Egg,Kamado Grill,Primo,Pit Boss,Louisiana and other kamado grill grate. It's a best companion for cast iron grate." It seemed that it should work with the cast iron grate on my Big Green Egg.. However, I purchased my current Big Green Egg from an individual who had been an avid BGE chef for many years. It came with many accessories including a cast iron grill grate. Whether it was original BGE or after market, I do not know, but it was a cast iron grate that fit the fit as the regular BGE grate. Unfortunately, the slots on this grate are just over 1/4" wide, but this lifter is just under 3/8" and doesn't fit. It will only squeeze through the triangular ones at the very ends of the crossmember. This makes it impossible to use as the product images demonstrate. While lifting it from one side is not too difficult, replacing it is much more difficult. I may try grinding to enlarge a slot in grate. So yes, I can recommend this grate lifter, if your grate has at least 3/8" gaps. It would have been good for the seller to advise "To confirm that your cast iron grate will work with the lifter, measure the gap between grate bars to ensure they are at least 3/8" wide." Although it is 5 stars (if it worked), -1 because it didn't, and -1 because there was no warning or way to know if it would work... so 3 stars.

Opening was supposed to fit 9/16" (0.56"), but the tool measured 0.535". My Green Egg measured 0.555". Since I previously bought a different brand that didn't fit I decided to file and Dremmel the tool to fit my grate. Due to curve of the the grate opening I actually needed to make the width ~0.62" to make it work. I like the "fork" design as it stably holds the grate with one tool. Make sure to measure the width of center grate and distance between grate "rods". Be sure to account for curve of the opening of center grate opening and not just center width. An inexpensive micrometer is worth buying to measure inside and outside widths and you will find it is useful for many projects.

Works perfect

Came exactly as it looked in the picture. Had to pick it up so there was weight to one side so it didn't wobble but works way better than the pliers I was using.
